  • Collins out at UNC

UNC is making a change at HC after their 2-9 season. As the only FCS school in the state it'll be interesting if they poach a coach from the RMAC.

They had their solution years ago, but they passed on Bob Stitt and hired Collins.

Now, they find themselves sort of in the same situation as Mesa. You better make a very good hire now, or the program will become mortally wounded.

Although, UNC is already on life support....

Agreed and I really doubt that at this stage in his career Wristen would even consider it. He is pretty set it seems.

GREAT place, though. I would think there'll be a lot of interest for the job. Coach Wristen's a BIG fish in a small pond. Would be, imo, foolish to go there. Met him on a couple of occasions and was vey impressed.

They need to move back to Division II. ;)

I know you're saying this in jest but...if they could do so in only football it would be for the best. Their other sports are not nearly as awful though.

It sounds like this is a popular job opening according to this article.... https://www.greeleytribune.com/sport...g-job-is-high/. Interesting with the table of coach's salaries.

How much is Wristen making at CSUP? The next coach will get more than the 151,000 that Collins was making. Also, the job is a good one, not great, but good. Collins left the program in good shape. High GPA and graduation rate, facilities are improving, and some young talent on the roster. It is not as some people believe "on life support."

Also, coaching salary does not always equate to great success. As the article mentions, Petrino is the highest paid coach in the league and Idaho was not very good at all. Montana doesn't pay Hauck all that great, but they're consistent winners.

Other sports have done pretty well at the D1 level. Think bigger picture, rather than just football.

I am not privy to all the details, but if Stitt could not win with Montana's resources what makes one think he could have won at UNC?

I am well aware of the big picture.
