Did not see this one coming.
The Colorado School of Mines football team is in the market for a new head coach after Gregg Brandon announced his retirement on Wednesday.

Man that's sudden (at least from the outside). Loved how his teams played. Hope they don't experience a big drop off with the new coach.

IMO, Brandon Moore needs to be seriously considered as his replacement.

Considering the OC was a finalist at Winona State..and didn't take the job....I'm guessing he may very well the guy the go with next. I'm betting on them not wanting to change things much,

Here's the Denver Post's story on the retirement..

        Interesting news, no question.

I grew up in Golden for a few years during the 80's when Mines was not very good but I still went to games and cheered. Never saw a winning season. It has been nice to see them really succeed and put a winning program on the field for the last two decades. I know Coach Brandon was a big part of that and he will be sorely missed there. Hope that whoever replaces him realizes how much that program means to the area and will be able to continue to recruit and coach kids for success.

So, any trends on direction for new coach? I wonder if they had someone in line already?

Any further word on the Mines gig? With a coach retiring..and them knowing this well in advance (as stated by the AD)..I'm a bit surprised they didn't have something lined up yet..seeing as the season finished for the Diggers on Dec 11th.

That would have been my choice.

Is the OC staying on board?

Well the new HC will be thrown into the fire right out of the chute. Playing at GVSU. I suspect Mines will have some continuity on staff, but what a test.

Pretty neat to see how excited coach is here about getting the gig and such.
