Hmm, Okay. I don't hate the hire.

WNMU obviously improved. Won six D2 games for the first time in school history, and got over .500 without scheduling NAIA games or worse. And he has a pretty good pedigree working with Carthel at SFA, NW Missouri, and Russ Martin.

My biggest concern would be, his one season of improvement is all we really know about him as a HC, and he never even held a coordinator position on his own before that. Seems risky for a program like Pueblo, and especially if they're supposedly cleaning house?

Be interesting to see how the staff fills out. Can't imagine anyone worth their weight from SFA or NWMSU wanting to leave for Pueblo right now.

I notice Vigil's still on the WNMU staff directory, but his DC, Junior Tanuvasa, is no longer there. Also looks like Tanuvasa removed WNMU from his Twitter handle.

As I said on the LSC Board when WNM hired Phil, he is a great person and a great competitor. Tough loss for WNM, but a great landing spot for Phil Vigil. He's got big shoes to fill, but I wish him well!

Hearing that SFA defensive line coach Faske could be his DC, from the Carthel tree. Coached defensive line for the Natty team. Be a great get if this is reality

What’s the case to be made for why Vigil is a good hire? Feels weak…

Any idea of Wilkinson's future plans? He seemed like a pretty good guy when he was down here and I wish him well in the future.

In addition to Colorado, Coach Vigil and his staff are recruiting HS prospects in Texas, Arizona, California and even New Mexico. CSUP offered 2 very good QBs from Arizona and some speedy WRs and DLs from Texas. Signing day at CSUP may look a little different than what we have seen in the past.

Here is our interview with Phil. He talks about the staff he'll have and other info about himself, etc.

Watching the presser, I get the impression that this will be a warm handoff from Wristen to Vigil..and that Coach will be there for Phil to bounce things off and very much still around..just not hovering over the process. This doesn't feel like a coach taking over a team with only his own staff and the previous regime is nowhere in sight anymore.

Some folks hope that Caid Faske, the new CSUP Defensive Coordinator, will run a conventional defense with four down linemen, like most teams at the DII level. CSUP is seemingly recruiting that way. Antonio Delgado, a MLB from Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Arizona was recently offered by CSUP. He’s a physical LB who could play in that scheme.

FWIW....this last season it seems that Phil used both 3 and 4 men fronts..but a good amount of 4 rushers per this look at them. I have a feeling it might be more about what the head coach prefers the squad to run as a base defense..but TBD certainly.

It would seem SFA did much the same. 4 man fronts and then mixed with some 3 man with a standing edge guy.
