St. Thomas has been approved by the NCAA to transition to D-I. Their women's' team has already been accepted into the WCHA. No word yet on the men's team, but it will most likely be the new CCHA or the NCHC.

Good add to get to 8 teams for the women. Men still have an arena question.

I wonder if the CCHA & NCHC will swap some teams, or if that is just opium den smoke?

My thoughts from over on USCHO:

IF St. Thomas can get an acceptable rink plan together, I could see the NCHC making a play for them. It would give the NCHC an even stronger foothold in a MSP media market. I feel like St. Thomas has a deep enough pockets financially to be with the NCHC members.

Now the question becomes, who would go with the Tommies to the NCHC? Mankato? Arizona State? Bowling Green? Would a NCHC team (Miami?) leave for the CCHA? Western Michigan seems to be okay with the NCHC setup, but Miami seems to have some rumblings of discontent.

Bemidji State has postponed their trip to Lowell and Merrimack over Thanksgiving to a different year. Since the Gophers have an open date as well Thanksgiving weekend, they will make the trip to Bemidji for one game (the teams are still scheduled to play in Minneapolis October 3).

The BSU women have had 6 of their 10 non-conference games called off......

The Northern Sun (Bemidji and Mankato in the WCHA, St. Cloud and Duluth in the NCHC) the GLIAC (Ferris, Lake Superior, Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech) and GSC (Alabama-Huntsville) have suspended D-II activities until January 1. The MAC (Bowling Green) has also suspended fall sports. I wasn't able to find anything yet on the GNAC (Anchorage and Fairbanks)

Alaska-Anchorage has announced that they will be cutting men's hockey. It was only a matter of time.

My question was answered quickly. They are keeping hockey.

For now. But without a conference home, I cannot see them lasting much more than a year as an independent....

No. Same thing with UAH. They will need to find a home.

Still curious about the Long Island startup.
