Mavs top Ferris Buehler 5-1, sweeping the Bulldogs on the road.

Jan 11th and they get their 20th win.

Big weekend in Mankato this weekend with #1 Mankato hosting #2 Bemidji. The Mavericks have a 6 point lead on the Beavers, so these six points on the line this weekend could either push the Mavs way out in front or allow the Beavers to inch closer.

It looks like Mankato could be without Marc Michaelis and Jake Jaremko this weekend due to injuries. I guess we will see come game time.

Tonight will be huge. If the Mavs win, pressure with be on the Beavers Saturday. Conversely, MSU can't afford to get swept at home, or even a loss and a tie. With the series returning to BSU in a little more than a month to end the regular season the fireworks are just beginning.

Mavs trail 3-0, score twice but the Beavers get an empty netter and get a road win 4-2 in front of over 5200.

Mavs and Beavers will see each other in a few weeks in Bemidji to close the year. As a Beaver fan, I hope the Beavers are still within striking distance so the series means something!

With last weekend's results, both the Beavers and Mavericks have locked up WCHA Playoff berths already. Looking at the standings, it appears Mankato can finish no worse than 6th and Bemidji no worse than 7th.

If I did this correctly, possible finish for WCHA teams:

Team, GP, Points, Possible Points, Possible Finish

                        Mankato 20 GP, 51, 75, 1-6 (playoff berth locked)
                        Bemidji 20 GP, 45, 69, 1-7 (playoff berth locked)
                        Northern 18 GP, 38, 68, 1-9
                        Alaska 22 GP, 35, 53, 1-10
                        Tech 20 GP, 29, 53, 1-10
                        BGSU 18 GP, 28, 58, 1-10
                        Lake St 20 GP, 24, 48, 2-10
                        UAA 20 GP, 19, 43, 3-10
                        Ferris 20 GP, 17, 41, 3-10

Third straight Saturday where the Mavs trailed 2-0 going into the third. Not a good trend. 0-6 on the power play.

Mavs score with 56 seconds to play.

Score again with one second left to send it to OT. No one scores so they go to 3 on 3. For NCAA purposes, it goes as a 2-2 tie.
But the winner gets an extra point in the WCHA standings.

Mavs score with 30 seconds to go in the 3 v 3!

Bemidji wins so they are within 5 points of the Mavs.

Really torn for this weekend with BSU on a bye. I would love to see Mankato get swept, and thereby keeping the Beavers within five points of them. But if that happens, Northern would be within a point of the Beavers for the second spot.

If Mankato sweeps, they will open up an 11 point lead on the Beavers, but Northern would remain seven points back.

A split is probably the best outcome to hope for as a Beaver fan. Mankato would only be eight points ahead with a bye next week. Northern would remain four points back and would be hosting the Beavers next weekend.

This is one of the best times of the year!
