  • Jones pitching well, but gets the hook because of three straight infield errors - Ditto -2 and Rusty-1. Sloop ball takes over for the Mules.....what the hell.

    • Mule's hitters finally starting to do something and take a 3 - 2 lead

      • Wingate, thanks to an outstanding relief job by Sam Broderson (3-1), won their first ever national championship 5-3. He retired the first 13 batters he faced (14 outs thanks to a DP), walked a batter and then got strikeout to end the game. The Mules got only 5 hits and back-to-back-to-back errors in the 3rd lead to 2 Wingate runs. Chase Plymell (3-1) got the loss allowing 2 runs in the 5th after retiring the first 5 he faced in the 3rd & 4th.

        • Wingate wins 5 -3. Wingate lost their first game of the tourney and then had to win five straight to win the national championship. Great win for Wingate and their community. Wingate is only a couple of hours from Cary and their fans packed the stands for the championship game. If "fight on" was the key for Wingate, then maybe "forgot how 'we' win" best described the Mules effort. The Mules had it all in front of them after starting the tourney at 2-0 and then letting that advantage slip away. The Mules got sloppy in the field and had pop-up fever at the plate and some coaching goofs. Other than Erik Webb, the top of the batting order was pretty much MIA.

As always, you're great with the stats, but maybe a little lacking on the analysis. What went right, wrong, and what did the Mules do during their three days off to stay sharp? Doesn't look like they spent any time in the batting cage or anything else....just saying. Not sure all that time off is really any advantage if you can't turn it into a plus.

In Randy's defense, he pretty much always reports just the facts and stats and leaves the opinions and the b/s for the rest of us to hash out. As far as what the Mules did or didn't do to stay sharp during the three days off in Cary, who knows....none of us were there.

                Fair enough.
