Keep a close eye on the Tampa pitching staff. Just sayin'

Everybody better have quality pitching out the wazoo....especially if you drop into the losers bracket after the first game.

UCM gets a run in the top of the first inning. The third out comes when the UCM runner gets picked off of first base. Same old stupid mistake that have been a recent problem. UCM probably leads D2 in getting picked off base. Taking chances they don't need to take.....geez.

Getting picked off base should be listed as a "unforced turnover".....just like in basketball.

Central Missouri is torching Ashland's ace pitcher with the score UCM 5-0 after an inning and a half. Start the bus.....Ashland is already toast.

Sorry for the delay in posting, I'm at the WCWS. Got to watch the first several innings due to a weather delay in OKC and listened to the rest. The Mules scored the first 7 runs and never looked back. They have only trailed for 2 innings in 6 NCAA tournament games. Ben Kelsch (8-3) was the winning pitcher with Conor Dryer getting the final 8 outs. The hitting stars were Mason Janvrin and Harrison Schnurbusch, both had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Janvrin now has 109 hits for the season.

Next up should be Luke Lucas (6-0) vs Colorado Mesa. The winner gets to wait to play the loser's bracket survivor on Thursday while the loser plays an elimination game on Wednesday.

I was at the Gopher game 1 win over LSU in the Super Regional in Minneapolis. I called the U of M for tickets/tour group info. They didn't have any. Checked online and they said that they were sold out. I was disappointed- then the Gophers played poorly and lost twice. Some really great games yesterday!

Re: Division II National Baseball Championship

After hardly ever trailing in the post season, the Mules never lead on Monday. Luke Lucas (6-1) took his first loss of the season allowing 6 runs in 5 innings and the Mules lost to Colorado Mesa 6-5. Bryce Kearns shut the Mavericks down for the last 4 innings and has now pitched 9 scoreless innings in NCAA tournament play. Andrew Morris (7-1) allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in 5-1/3 innings for the win and Will Dixon recorded the final 7 outs for his NCAA leading 16th save.

The Mules Mason Janvrin lead off the bottom of the first with his NCAA leading 110th hit of the season.

This was game #6 of the tournament and the game 6 winner has had a great deal of success winning it all over the years. The last two champions, Augie & West Chester, were both game 6 winners. The game 6 winner is the only team to get 2 days off (unless weather causes delays) during the entire tounament. Back in 2000, Southeastern Oklahoma won the championship in 4 games and only used 2 starting pitchers and 3 pitchers total (the 3rd pitcher tossed a mop up inning in a big win). Saturday's starter started again on Thursday and Monday's starter started the championship game on Saturday.

Back in 2008 we decided to go to the WCWS during the kids (and my wife's - she taught in the district) spring break just a couple of months before the tournament. It was easy to get tickets then and they usually had single game tickets on game day. Now the tournament is sold out by January but we have kept the same seats for what is now our 12th WCWS.

They usually have a limited number of SRO tickets on game day and many people that have tickets sell them through PrimeSport, the official NCAA ticket exchange website, if their team doesn't make it to OKC.

Re: Division II National Baseball Championship

                          Sorry for the delay.

The Mules beat Ashland 11-3 to advance to the semi-finals. Mason Green (9-0) struckout 12 in 7 innings. All 3 runs he allowed were unearned. Chase Plymell retired all 6 batters he faced in the 8th & 9th. The Mules had 19 hits lead by Josh Schumacher with 4. The Mules also had 3 each from Erik Webb (including his 21st home run), Harrison Schnurbusch & Michael Sinks. 8 of the 9 Mules starters had at least 1 hit.

The Mules forced the bracket 1 "if" game beating Mesa 7-5. The Mules used 6 pitchers all pitching less than 3 innings. Plymesll (2-0) got the win in relief and Jonathan Sprinkle got the final 2 outs for his 10th save. He actually retired all 3 batters he faced but one batter struckout on a pitch that skipped to the backstop and reach 1st on the wild pitch. The Mules had 14 hits, lead again by Schumacher & Webb with 3 each. Again 8 of the 9 starters had at least 1 hit. Webb's last hit was his 100th of the season becoming only the 4th Mule to reach that mark.

The Mules season ended in the "if" game when Mesa's all american closer, Will Dixon (2-0) shutout the Mules 1-0 on 103 pitches allowing only 7 hits. Dixon had 4 strikeouts and 18 fly ball outs. 2 of the other 5 outs came when Alex Madera grounded into a double play to end the 3rd. Madera was originally called safe allowing the Mules to take a 1-0 lead but Mesa challenged the call at first and it was reversed by replay. A 3rd of the "other" outs came when Schumacher was caught stealing after leading off the 7th with a single. Schumacher was also called safe and the call was reversed by replay. The 7 hits were the only time in Cary that the Mules were held below 10. The shutout was the first in 104 games for the Mules, the last time was March 02nd of 2018 @ Washburn. Ben Kelsch (8-4) was the losing pitcher allowing 1 run in 7 innings.

Tampa won their 8th national championship beating Mesa 3-1 in the first championship game. (Had Mesa won it would have been Tampa's first loss requiring another game.) Only Florida Southern has more championships with 9. Tampa has won 5 titles since Southern won their 9th in 2005.
