College Baseball 2024

[SW_Mustang]

Mavs are hosting at ISG Field instead of at Bowyer - which is the right move. Not a knock against the campus facility, but this is a much better fit. I intend to be there Saturday regardless of who is playing, good opportunity to see some quality baseball.

Game two on Saturday was exhausting - and I didn't even play. Augie pitching had nothing left by the middle of the game, and the Mavs pitching had nothing left by the end. NSIC needs to reconfigure the tournament somehow. Having guys pitch like 4 games in two days or whatever, then expecting them to be available a week later for regionals is brutal.

Fun Fact I learned - MSU assistant Packy Casey's grandpa is Bob Casey, and AU DH's Josh Koskie's dad is Corey Koskie. I used to listen to Bob announce Corey's at-bats at the Metrodome. Pretty cool to be in the same ballpark with those two 20 years after the fact.

The Boll Weevils (their women's team are the Cotton Blossoms) bottom of the order came through, and UAM came through with clutch hits with two outs. Pitt State beat Henderson State in the other game- Gorillas over the Reddies. I'll nominate this regional for the most unique nicknames. Any other candidates?

Mankato's nickname is the Key City. Hence the KEYC-TV name. The Minnesota State Keys................ sounds like the VMI Keydets!

I looked it up once - Mankato is "short and to the point," apparently. Not how I'd describe the city of brotherly chaos - but hey!

Not DII - but Auburn's Andrew Dutton hit a home run in his first AB for the Tigers. He's a 5th year transfer from the shuttered DIII Birmingham-Southern who spent all season coaching first base. I love baseball.

Also found out that I'm going back to MSU - starting Monday apparently. So I really need the guys to get it together and win two more games.

Regional game in Mankato today postponed until tomorrow. It is wet and crappy here today. Glad I found out early so I don't waste 140 miles round trip.

Augustana put up 25 on Henderson St. earlier this year. Just sayin…

Crappy weather in Kato, that's unfortunate. Mavs will clobber the Reddies. I still can't believe they got in over Augie. It's still my opinion that the Mavs are the best team in this group. This weather is NSIC weather.

Parka weather. Lightning strike popped a fuse at my place, didn't have any water. Couldn't find the problem until my farm renter came over. Said he has problems with his quite often and quickly found the cause. It was hidden away. Lucky for me, I was worried about a dry well.

Both Mavs and Gorillas scored a lot of runs in the cold wind today. Hoping to make it down there tomorrow. Have to win three straight to advance. Rematch with UAM first.

I went on Saturday. It was fun to watch MSU Baseball at ISG Field. I wanted to stay for the second game, but I could barely feel my existence. 40 after a gorgeous week of 90 hit pretty hard.

Mavs played well for the first 7 innings, then the pitching fell apart - it made me worried for the remainder of the tournament. Looks like my fears were realized on Saturday.

MSU had a good season, but they need to break through the glass ceiling. I don't think regional appearances should be the goal for this program.
