NE10 Preview Week 10

Two weeks to decide the league champion and this week will have a huge say in who gets the plaque for their facility.

Bentley (4-4, 4-2 NE10) @ Franklin Pierce (1-8, 0-7 NE10)

When:  November 9th, 12:00 PM

All-Time Series:  First Meeting

Thoughts:  First Time.

Bentley took care of business at home with their 41-35 victory over St. Anselm.  The score was closer than the game as the Falcons made a lot of plays to win the game but also made numerous turnovers to keep it close. For the Falcons to win on the road, they will need to keep their offense cooking.  They need to move the ball and continue to hit on the big play.

Franklin Pierce lost 63-0 to New Haven on their first trip to play on the blue turf.  The Ravens fell behind early but started to move the ball in the second half.  The young team is still learning to play football at the collegiate level and showing signs of improvement.  For the Ravens to win on their home turf, they will need to play 60 minutes.  Both sides of the football will need to make plays and play beyond their years.

Bentley is more experienced and will win the game.

Prediction:  Bentley 45 Franklin Pierce 7

St. Anselm (3-6, 3-3 NE10) @ American International (3-5, 2-4 NE10)

When:  November 9th, 12:00 PM

All-Time Series:  American International leads the series, 17-2-0

Thoughts:  Teams headed in different directions.

St. Anselm lost on the road to Bentley 41-35.  The Hawks stayed in the game and made it close down the stretch.  They scored when they needed to and make several plays on defense and special teams to nearly pull off the road upset.  For the Hawks to win on the road, they will need to make plays down the stretch as they did in their three straight wins.  The defense will need to get off the field on third down.

American International fell to Pace 35-25.  The Yellow Jackets rallied late but it was too little, too late to win the game.  The defense had trouble with the playmakers of Pace and not able to make third-down stops or pressure the quarterback.  For the Yellow Jackets to win the game, they will need to play 60 minutes.  The offense needs to move the chains and the defense needs to contain the opposing quarterback.

American International will find a way to win on their Senior Day.

Prediction:  American International 23 St. Anselm 20

New Haven (5-3, 4-2 NE10) @ Assumption (6-2, 5-1 NE10)

When:  November 9th, 12:00 PM

All-Time Series:  Assumption leads the series, 8-5-0

Thoughts:  First Place on the Line.

New Haven came off their bye week to defeat Franklin Pierce 63-0.  The Chargers came out fast and scored early and often to their fifth game of the season.  The offense was strong, and the defense matched their intensity in the opening 30 minutes.  For the Chargers to win on the road, they will need to play their best game of the season.  The offense needs to grind out yards in order to allow the quarterback time to throw the ball.  The defense needs to stuff the run and not allow long, time-consuming drives.

Assumption is coming off their bye week after defeating Stonehill 40-37 in double overtime two weeks ago.  The Greyhounds find themselves on top of the league standings and two games away from winning another title.  But they need to defeat New Haven in their biggest game of the season.  For the Greyhounds to win the game, they will need to come out fast and score early.  The offense needs to click early and often.  The defense needs to pressure the quarterback and force him to make bad decisions.

This game will live up to the hype and come down to the fourth quarter.  Assumption will make the necessary plays down the stretch to win the game.

Prediction:  Assumption 38 New Haven 30

Pace (5-3, 4-2 NE10) @ Stonehill (5-3, 4-2 NE10)

When:  November 9th, 3:00 PM

All-Time Series:  Stonehill leads the series, 14-10-0

Thoughts:  The loser is eliminated from the league title chase.

Pace defeated American International 35-25 on their Senior Day.  The Setters jumped out early and used their usual playmakers to end their home schedule with a victory.  The defense gave up some plays and points late but the game all but over at that point.  For the Setters to win on the road, they will need to be consistent.  They need to play solid from the first snap to the last one.  If they are able to play that way, they are a solid team and capable of beating anyone.

Stonehill took care of business in their 41-20 victory over Southern Connecticut.  The Skyhawks had a career rushing day and then move the ball with ease through the air.  The defense was once again good and allowed some late yards and points once the game was decided.  For the Skyhawks to win the game, they will need to finish the game.  They have been solid in the first 57 minutes of their two league losses.  But they need to find a way to finish the game.  57 minutes of solid play doesn’t win games against good teams.

Stonehill will find a way to score in the final minute of the game to steal this game.

Prediction:  Stonehill 31 Pace 27
