It might be April, but the Notre Dame College football team is still in a "March Madness" frame of mind — thanks to Coach Mickey Mental. A three-sport standout at Olmsted Falls High School and eventually a starting quarterback at Baldwin Wallace, Mental will always have football in his blood. Basketball wasn’t too far behind. Mental — who also played baseball — was a starting point guard during three seasons for the Bulldogs.
“I love hoops. Some days, I actually like watching basketball more than football,” said Mental with a laugh. “Our guys love watching college basketball, too, and this relates to them.” So it’s understandable why Mental has been hammering home a March Madness mentality during his football team’s one-of-a-kind spring season, which comes to a close April 17 at Mueller Field in South Euclid.
