The Choctaws came very close to getting their first GSC win last week since rejoining the division and had their first weekly conference honor as Marcel Newson was named Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Valdosta State. He returned a punt for a 73-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that put MC up late in the game along with having over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown catch. Josh Dixon also had a big day rushing with 153 yards and a touchdown while Chris Manning led the defense with 8 tackles and an interception. He was joined by Julian Charles with 6 tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss, and a sack.

In the UWG defeat, it was the defense that had the standout performers as Marcus Sayles got the only score for the Wolves when he returned an interception for 81 yards to get the Pick 6. Laronji Vason also contributed strongly finishing the game with 13 tackles.

If the teams continue on their trends of the past two weeks, this could be the upset of the season. Yet, if both teams return their ways of earlier in the season, it will be a nice homecoming win for the Wolves.

#24 Florida Tech (5-1) at West Alabama (4-3) @ 2 PM CST

FIT got back to their winning ways and spread the love around with numerous players getting playing time in the win over FVSU. They led 41-7 at the half and that allowed participation from just about everyone dressed out as evidenced by their having 10 different receivers with catches from three different quarterbacks in the game.

West Alabama got the biggest signature victory of the Brett Gilliland era by going to Carrollton and defeating their old head coach for the first time since his departure from Livingston. They were led by the defense who held UWG to just 206 yards anchored by the play of the GSC Defensive Player of the Week, Darius Ellis. He finished the game with 7 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, and two sacks (which put him in the Top 15 nationally). The Tigers offense also had a great day orchestrated by Austin Grammer who led the team to 413 yards. On special teams, Donta Armstrong has a 69-yard punt return for a score.

This is a tough pick. The game is in Livingston but the Tigers have had big battles the past two weeks while FIT had a bye week and a weak opponent last week. If momentum carries over, the Tigers will win but if they are tired the Panthers could win big.

My pick: Panthers by 7

Delta State (4-3) at #16 Valdosta State (5-1) at @ 3 PM EST
th Quarter. Roland Rivers also had a good game passing for 330 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Jamar Simpkins contributed 7 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, and 1.5 sacks.

I feel this game will come down to the play of each defense and, to me, Valdosta will win that battle. They must contain Robinson, obviously, but I foresee an interception or two that will help tilt the outcome in their favor.
