PSAC Release: Athletes of the Week
Raiders and Warriors Fight Through Five Overtime PeriodsEast Stroudsburg Recap and the Shippensburg Recap.
Clarion continues to upset the establishment
With a 41-27 win over Mercyhurst, the Eagles remained unbeaten under first year head coach Chris Weibel. Clarion (5-0) and Shepherd (4-0) are now the only undefeated teams in SR1. However, three teams from the CIAA are undefeated in Division II. Bowie State, Chowan and Virginia Union are all 4-1, with their only loss to FCS opponents.
A lot of things are working well for Clarion right now but it definitely starts with the play of QB Connor Simmons. The Jr. leads the PSAC in QB efficiency (184.4) and is second in passing yards per game (329). He has the highest completion percentage (67.3) and has thrown 17 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions. Matt Lehman has been his primary target with 36 catches for 479 yards and 10 TD. The defense is doing its job of getting the opposing team off the field. The Eagles lead the PSAC in time of possession and sacks by the defense.
Lakers Fall to 0-2 in the Division
Mercyhurst started out the year 3-0 which was fantastic, but they have now lost the last two and are 0-2 in the West division, which just about eliminates them from the championship race. The Lakers cleaned up the turnovers that plagued them last week but they are still struggling to run the ball and the passing game produced only 7.8 yards per completion yesterday.
Brown-Dukes sets career rushing record
Despite the struggles, Brandon Brown-Dukes rushed for 100 yards and established a new school record for rushing yards in a career at Mercyhurst. Brown-Dukes has 3,427 for his career and still has half a season to extend his record. Congratulations Brandon.
Seton Hill was so close again. So close.
The Griffins have been stepping into new territory this season and they did it again on Saturday. Two weeks ago it was hanging around with West Chester for four quarters. Last week it was trading blows with Slippery Rock and coming out on top. This past Saturday, they had Cal on the ropes. They had Cal in a 21-3 hole at halftime. They held the lead until midway through the fourth quarter. Christian Strong had another huge day throwing the ball (473 yards) and the Griffins may have more big play potential than any team in the PSAC. It has been an impressive three week stretch for The Hill and I have to believe there is more to come.

Bloomsburg finds the scoreboardA trio tops 100 for Kutztown
Kutztown did all of their damage with the rushing attack on Saturday. The Bears ran for exactly 400 yards on 57 carries. Three Bear running backs (Terry Williams, James Wah and Darrell Scott) topped 100 yards rushing. The same three backs accomplished the the same feat last year in the Millersville game.
Another record for Reed
WR Kodi Reed established a new school record for touchdown receptions in a career with this 24th. Millersville closed out the game decently, but were held scoreless for the first 44 minutes of the game.
