Cheyney EdinboroSeton Hill earned the most impressive win of the weekend. The Griffins prevailed in an exciting back and forth battle with Bowie State, winning on the road by a final of 50-48. QB Christian Strong tied the school record with five touchdown passes. Amazingly, the final 9:42 seconds of the game were scoreless. The Griffins took the lead with a 37 yard TD pass at that point and the defense then came up with back to back 3-and-out possessions. The Griffins were able to kill the final 4:35 with a 10 play drive.

I expected a young Mercyhurst team to struggle at highly ranked Ashland, but the 48-0 loss was not a very competitive outing for the Lakers. The debut of JC transfer Danavian Clay (5 catches, 74 yards) was one of the few bright spots. Freshman Doug Altavilla started at quarterback and was later relieved by Logan Weaver.

East StroudsburgClarion wasted little time finding their groove. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 24-3 halftime lead over Lock Haven and cruised home for a 41-24 win. Connor Simmons posted 396 passing yards with 4TD and 0 INT.

Despite the loss, Lock Haven did finish the night with impressive offensive numbers. Caleb Walton passed for 392 yards with 3 TD and 0 INT. Shawn Seif was on the receiving end of nine passes for 170 yards. RB Malyk Harris chipped in 110 rushing yards. All told, the Bald Eagles actually outgained the Golden Eagles 526-497.

Bloomsburg appeared to have left their offensive woes from last year in the past. The Huskies rolled up more than 300 yards in the first two quarters on their way to a 24-10 halftime lead. But the offense disappeared during the break as the Huskies managed a scant 7 yards of total offense in the second half. The damage done early in the game was enough as the Huskies' defense was able to hold the lead and secure a 24-20 win at Stonehill.

Gannon turned in one of the more impressive performances of the weekend. The Golden Knights were never seriously threatened by visiting Southern Connecticut State. New starting QB Zach Phillips had a superb day, but most of his productivity was on the ground. Phillips rushed for 181 yards and 4 TDs. He attempted only 7 passes in the game.

I thought ShippensburgWest Chester Slippery RockKutztown battled early but could not keep pace with an impressive Assumption team. The Greyhounds rushed for 207 and passed for 275 in very efficient offensive performance. Assumption pulled away after a 21-0 run to start the third quarter. Transfer Terence Scanlon started and played the entire game at QB for the Golden Bears.
