The Turkey Day Classic is upon us. Ok, I know many of you want to see a great football game. If that is the case, you should be in Montgomery, AL tomorrow at the new Alabama State University football stadium (kickoff 3pm CST). There will be tailgating on a colossal level starting 6 a.m., as this is the first football game in a brand new state of the art stadium. Pre-game activities on the field begin at 2:15 p.m. CST.
Many will come to watch two former Division I TBs (Derrick Washington and Isaiah Cromwell). Both of these young men have the skills to play at the next level. Both were very successful at Division I schools (Washington, Missouri and Cromwell, Georgia). Washington was an All-Big Ten Performer and Cromwell was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Their off field antics caused them to move to Division II, Tuskegee and Alabama State and their fans are the beneficiaries. Washington was named the SIAC Player of the Year and Cromwell has rushed for over 800 yards with the Hornets of ASU this year. Washington is a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy (Best Football Player in Division II Football). Honestly, the game tomorrow will come down to coaching more than players. It will be about putting players into positions to make plays. Head Coach Willie Slater (Tuskegee) and Head Coach Reggie Barlow (Alabama State University) will battle each other mentally, until the final second. Tuskegee is one point away from being undefeated and ASU barely missed the SWAC Championship game by 3 points.
The real Tuskegee is back willing and ready. I fully expect them to continue their dominance over ASU, but it will be a great game even though ASU will score first.
Prediction: Tuskegee 29 ASU 19
Players to watch: Tuskegee Derrick Washington (RB), Gene Stewart Moody (P), Adontavius Turner (DL), Devonte Jones (OL) Quavon Taylor (LB) and Aaron Bennett (DL)
Alabama State University: Terren Jones (OL), Carlton Jones (DL), Kejuan Riley (DB), Saeed Lee (DB), Greg Jenkins (QB), T.C. McWilliams (WR), and Isaiah Cromwell (RB)
