I talked to QB Jeremy Buurma and LB Seth Bailey specifically about this game at the LSC Media Day. I tried to find out what happened and where things went wrong. They stated that they just had trouble getting things going and not getting to their assignments. I believe the Hounds should not have lost this season opener last year and it really hurt them come playoff time at the end of last year. I know for a fact that they have this game circled on their calendar and want this game to go differently this season as they had struggles early in the season and it cost them a playoff bid. This team will be extra pumped to get on the field against this Highlands team and fix what went wrong last season. With that being said, weather could be a real difference maker in this game with the great chance of showers and storms. I believe the Hounds running game will be more durable and efficient if weather conditions worsen and it rains. NMHU will like to pass the ball a lot and it will be truly tested if the game gets rain and the conditions get slick.
Prediction: Eastern New Mexico 31 New Mexico Highlands 24
Texas A&M Commerce (0-0) v. East Texas Baptist (D3) (0-0), Thursday, 7 p.m. Kickoff
Commerce, TX, Memorial Stadium
Weather: High: 95 degrees Low: 75 degrees with mostly clear skies and wind between 5 to 10 MPH
Prediction: Texas A&M Commerce 54 East Texas Baptist 17
Game of the Week: #13 West Texas A&M (0-0) v. #4 Colorado State Pueblo (0-0), Thursday, 7 p.m. Kickoff
Pueblo, CO, Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl
Weather: High: 87 degrees Low: 53 degrees with 40% chance of Rain and Thunderstorms with 5 to 10 MPH winds
WT coming into this game is replacing a lot of holes in their defense, in the Special Teams and at the QB position. Also, putting in some new faces at the RB position, as well. They will need to be on their A game to win this matchup in Pueblo. The new QB Preston Rabb will be a key role along with the new defensive line and LBs to be a key factor in this matchup. Both the Thunderwolves and Buffaloes suffered losses at the Special Teams position, which could be a major difference maker in this game. The major advantage that Pueblo has coming into this game is the playmaking abilities of QB Chris Bonner and DE Darius Allen. These will be the biggest playmakers on the field for Pueblo. Also through in the return of starting running back Cameron McDondle and the return of JB Matthews after missing last season, will make this Pueblo offense a force to be reckoned with. WT strengths will be at the receiver position and at the secondary position. They return a lot of seasoned wide receivers and experience secondary players in Oakley, Hayes and Morris. The Wide Receivers will be led by Anthony Johnson, Jeremy Watson, Jarrian Rhone and Word Hudson, with a lot of other major talents in their core with an addition of a big transfer in Xavier Amey, who could make a lot of noise.
Prediction: Colorado State Pueblo 35 West Texas A&M 30
