After six weeks of football, it is time to look at who has played the toughest and weakest schedules within the NE-10. Strength of schedule is a huge component in the determination of the playoff participants for Division II.

The team with the strongest SOS through six weeks is Merrimack. The Warriors have played six teams with a combined winning percentage of 66.67%. Despite an overall record of 2-4, the four losses for Merrimack were by a total of 17 points. A different bounce or call here or there in those four losses and the Warriors might have an overall winning record.

The team with the weakest SOS through six weeks is Bentley. The Falcons have played six teams with a combined winning percentage of 36.11%. Bentley has yet to play a team with a winning percentage greater than .500. Two teams, New Haven and Mercyhurst are at .500 like the Falcons and the four other opponents are below .500 right now.

And on the flip side, Bentley has the toughest schedule over the final four weeks of the regular season. They play teams with a combined winning percentage of 66.67%. Merrimack plays the weakest schedule down the stretch. Their opponents have a combined winning percentage of 33.33%. The Warriors will only play one team with a record of .500 right now.

If you look at the first place team in the league, Assumption has played the ninth toughest schedule thus far. This weekend will be their only opponent on their remaining schedule right now with a record below .500 in Southern Connecticut. After that, they travel to American International and finish the season with Bentley and Stonehill at home. Those three teams are at or above .500 through six weeks of football.

Four weeks to the championship game and this is why it is very tough to predict who will be playing in that game. Some teams seem to have an easy path while others have a tougher one. But one thing is for sure, you need to win football games on the field and whoever does that the best will have earned their spot.
