Can you believe that it is already Week 10 in the NE-10? Another season has flown by and we are looking forward to championship weekend. But before that, we still need to determine one more slot int he championship game and three other games next weekend.
New Haven (6-3, 6-2 NE-10) @ St. Anselm (2-7, 2-6 NE-10)
When: November 7th, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: New Haven leads the series, 4-2-0
My Thoughts: 2nd place is on the line.
New Haven took care of business when they defeated Pace 34-3. The Chargers still need to win this game to secure their spot in the championship game or have a couple of teams lose. New Haven has now won three games in a row since they fell to Assumption. Both sides of the ball are playing well and they have been focused on getting into the championship game all season long. For New Haven to win the game, they will need to play strong in the trenches and not allow St. Anselm to control the clock.
St. Anselm lost again to Stonehill 35-24 to end a tough month of October. The Hawks were winless in the month after such a promising start. The depth of the team has been tested with all of the injuries this year. For St. Anselm to win the game, they will need to find a way to slow down the New Haven rushing game. They will also need to make first downs and move the chains consistently.
New Haven is the bigger and stronger team and will grind out the victory to earn their shot at the championship.
Prediction: New Haven 31 St. Anselm 13
American International (3-6, 3-5 NE-10) @ Pace (1-8, 0-8 NE-10)
When: November 7th, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: AIC leads the series, 16-2-0
My Thoughts: Two struggling teams.
American International fell at home to Merrimack 20-3. The Yellow Jackets have lost three straight after an impressive victory at Stonehill. The offense has only been able to generate 16 points in the losing streak as the defense has kept them in most games. For American International to win the game, they will need to find their offensive rhythm. They will need to move the ball and find the end zone.
Pace dropped their latest game to New Haven 34-3. The Setters struggled to move the ball and match up with the size and speed of the Chargers. They did roll out a new offense by running the Wildcat but were not able to capitalize on it. For Pace to win the game, they will need to move the ball and find some holes in the AIC defense. The defense will also need to pressure the quarterback and force bad decisions.
American International will make more plays and escape with a victory.
Prediction: American International 17 Pace 6
Merrimack (5-4, 5-3 NE-10) @ Southern Connecticut (3-6, 3-5 NE-10)
When: November 7th, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Series tied at 9-9-0
My Thoughts: Always crazy games between these two teams
Merrimack won their third straight by defeating American International 20-3. The defense was again solid and has been the main reason for the winning streak. Two interceptions helped with field possession and the offense was able to take advantage by scoring to win the game. For Merrimack to win on the road, they will need more of this outstanding defense play. The offense will need to play mistake free and punch the ball into the end zone.
Southern Connecticut nearly rallied but fell at LIU Post 49-46. The Owls scored 22 points in the final quarter but were not able to get one more drive that might have won the game. The defense struggled for the first three quarters and dug too deep of a hole. For Southern Connecticut to win the game, they will need to play four quarters of football. It has been a proven formula of success for them in their three wins and needs to be repeated again.
Merrimack is playing too well right now and will take this match up.
Prediction: Merrimack 24 Southern Connecticut 13
Stonehill (6-3, 5-3 NE-10) @ # 21 Assumption (8-1, 7-1 NE-10)
When: November 7th, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Stonehill leads the series, 20-7-0
My Thoughts: Best game of the weekend.
Stonehill defeated St. Anselm 35-24 and remains tied for third place in the league. The offense scored early in the game to set the tone. The Skyhawks welcomed back some key players from injury and seem like a much better team right now. They have an outside shot at a rematch next weekend with Assumption if they can pull off the upset. For Stonehill to win the game, they will need to move the ball and find a way to slow down the Assumption offense.
Assumption clinched a spot in the NE-10 championship game with a 40-7 victory over Bentley. The Greyhounds continued their special team's dominance as they blocked a punt and returned a couple of punts for touchdowns. It was just more of the same for them. For Assumption to win the game, they will need to play well on both sides of the ball and not look forward. This game is important for them to play well and continue their momentum into the championship game.
Assumption is not looking ahead and continues their solid play.
Prediction: Assumption 27 Stonehill 17
LIU Post (6-3, 5-3 NE-10) @ Bentley (4-5, 4-4 NE-10)
When: November 7th, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Post leads the series, 12-6-0
My Thoughts: It is always a barn burner between these teams.
LIU Post narrowly escaped with a 49-46 victory over Southern Connecticut. The offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first three quarters before the defense allowed the Owls back in the game. The passing game was strong and led the Pioneers to the victory. For LIU Post to win the game, they will need to move the ball against a good defense and score when in the red zone. The defense will need to play four quarters.
Bentley lost on the road to Assumption 40-7. They struggled in the punting game and fell behind early. The offense had a couple of drives to try to get them back in the game but it was not enough. The defense played well and shut down one of the better offenses in the league. For Bentley to win the game, they will need to clean up the mistakes of the previous game and play a full 60 minutes mistake free.
Post will make a play late and win the game.
Prediction: LIU Post 24 Bentley 20
