The third and final edition of the Super Region One rankings have been released. The playoff bracket is scheduled to be released on November 16th at 5 PM. Let's take a look at the top 10 in the region heading into the final weekend:
1. Shepherd 9-0, 9-0 DII
The Rams hold down the top spot for the third consecutive week and look like they will be the top seed in the region. They close out the season with a home game against a 2-8 Urbana team. A win for Shepherd will get them a first round bye.
2. Bowie State 9-1, 9-0 DII
The Bulldogs will play for the CIAA championship against Winston-Salem State. They were penalized for having an ineligible player for the first five weeks of the season but the penalty didn't play much into their division title or regional ranking. Bowie State will host a playoff game if they take their first CIAA championship. They should stay in the top seven if they fall in the title tilt.
3. Charleston 9-1, 9-1 DII
The Golden Eagles are in solid position for a home playoff game if they are able to defeat a 1-9 UVa-Wise team. They have taken care of business for the past eight weeks after dropping a game to Shepherd. A win should get them a home game and a loss puts them on the bubble.
4. Slippery Rock 9-1, 9-1 DII
The Rock won the PSAC West and will now play at West Chester for the PSAC championship. They completely dominated then #10 in the region Clarion last weekend. If Slippery Rock is able to win consecutive PSAC championships, they should stay in position to host a playoff game. A loss puts them on the cusp of the playoffs but their resume appears strong enough to make the top seven of the region.
5. Assumption 9-1, 9-1 DII
The Greyhounds finished in first place in the regular season of the NE-10 after defeating Stonehill 28-14. They will host their first championship game against New Haven. If Assumption wins the game, they will make their first playoff appearance in school history. If they lose the game, they will be out of the playoff picture unless they get some help from the teams below them.
6. IUP 7-2, 7-2 DII
The Crimson Hawks took care of business by beating Gannon 26-14. They will close out the season with Cheyney and look to be very close to securing another playoff bid. They finished tied with Slippery Rock in the competitive PSAC West but lost to them, keeping them out of the championship game. A win should be good enough for them to make the playoffs and a loss would eliminate them.
7. Virginia Union 8-2, 8-1 DII
The Panthers finished their regular season with a 28-27 victory over Virginia State. They finished behind Bowie State in the Northern Division based on winning percentage and their head to head loss. Virginia Union is on the bubble for the playoffs and might need some of the teams ahead of them to lose in order to secure a spot in the top seven.
8. California 7-3, 7-3 DII
The Vulcans defeated Mercyhurst and stayed in the hunt for a potential playoff berth. They will close out the season against Lock Haven but will need a lot of assistance to make the playoffs. Consecutive losses to Slippery Rock and IUP in the middle of October might be too much for California to overcome to make the playoffs.
9. New Haven 7-3, 7-3 DII
The Chargers clinched their spot in the NE-10 championship game with a 44-21 road victory at St. Anselm. They will play for the NE-10 title for the first time since 2012 and that is also their last playoff appearance. If New Haven wins the game, they should be in the top seven of the region and make the playoffs. A loss would end their season.
10. Glenville State 7-3, 7-3 DII
