I will be previewing all of the NE-10 football teams over the next 10 days. I will roll out each team in my preseason poll from # 10 to # 1. The NE-10 released the coaches' preseason poll on August 19th.

The season starts on September 1st when St. Anselm travels to Wagner and Pace is at Millersville.

Here is my pick for #6 in the league in 2016:

Southern Connecticut State University Owls (4-7, 3-6 NE-10)

Southern Connecticut has struggled the past several seasons but 2015 seemed to offer some positive turnarounds for the program. They were competitive and finished by winning four of their final seven games after losing the first four to open the season.

The offense will be centered around quarterback Robert Nittolo. His emergence last year was a big shot in the arm and resulted in an offense that moved the ball. His main target is back in receiver Devante Jenkins. They hooked up for 13 touchdowns last year and have become one of the top pass-catch duos in the league. Donald Thomas and Devon Davis are the top returning rushing backs. The offensive line is also big and physical for the Owls.

The defense welcomes back several key players for 2015 and is very strong in the middle of the field. Vasilios Grigorakos, Jhaaron Wallace, Kayjuam Bynum and Brandon Pelzer will see time at the linebacker position and be in on most plays. Jarred Moore and Ahmed Hourani will be the anchors on the defensive line. Corey Chaffee, Wjhante Holden, Justin Potts and Gavin Harley will be in charge of stopping the opposing passing game from the secondary positions.

Third year head coach Tom Godek has seen the good and bad of the Southern Connecticut program. He is hoping that he will see the good this year. He has rebuilt the roster since his arrival and is looking to be in the hunt for a league title. That is the Southern Connecticut way.
