It is that time of the year again, football season. The teams have been on campus for a couple of weeks now and are preparing for the 2017 season.
It all kicks off on August 31st when Bentley travels to West Chester and St. Anselm plays at Wagner.

Here is my pick for #4 in the league in 2017:

Southern Connecticut State University Owls (6-5, 6-3 NE-10)

Coach: Tom Godek, 4th season (12-21)

Opening Game: September 2nd vs. Gannon

2017 Schedule

2016 Stats

2017 Roster

Game to Watch: September 15th vs. Assumption

The Owls will not be overlooking their first two opponents but this game will test them to see if they are ready to play with the upper echelon of the NE-10. They nearly knocked off Assumption two years ago at home and this matchup will see if they are living up to the preseason hype.

Player to Watch: Ray Catapano, QB

The senior quarterback has seen his fair share of playing time and then time on the sidelines in his four years with the Owls. He saw time as a freshman, lost his job and now is back in charge of the offense. He filled in last year after an injury and never looked back. If he plays mistake free, the Owls will compete for the title this year.

Unit to Watch: Offensive Line

Southern Connecticut has a rich history of solid offensive lines and this year needs to be no exception. The guys up front need to protect the quarterback, open holes for the running backs and get very little credit when it all works well. If they excel this year, the sky is the limit for the Owls.

Outlook:

Fourth year head coach Tom Godek has preached patience since he took over the reins of the program. He has been part of the glory years there and is now building the program with his stamp on it. It has taken longer than he thought but 2017 looks to be a very promising season for his team.
