Week 5 in the NE-10. Can you believe that we are at the halfway point of the season?

Stonehill (1-3, 1-2 NE-10) @ Pace (2-2, 1-2 NE-10)

When: September 29th, 12:00 PM

All-Time Series: Stonehill leads the series, 14-9-0

My Thoughts: Best game of the weekend.

Stonehill fell on the road to Southern Connecticut 42-21. They scored first but were not able to extend that momentum for very long. They had their backup quarterback play decently but the defense struggled to stop the running game of Southern Connecticut. The Skyhawks will need to play a balanced game and allow the quarterback to spread the ball all over the field. The defense will need to make some plays and slow down the Pace rushing attack.

Pace fell to Assumption 49-21 last Friday night and the game was closer than the score. They outgained Assumption in total yards but made too many mistakes to defeat a solid team. The defense was faced with short fields all evening long and just not able to keep them out of the end zone. The Setters will need to play more disciplined and clean up the penalties. Let the rushing game do their thing and the defense will need to come up with stops.

This game will be close throughout, but Pace will use a late drive to score the winning points.

Prediction: Pace 27 Stonehill 23

Bentley (1-3, 1-2 NE-10) @ New Haven (3-1, 3-0 NE-10)

When: September 29th, 1:00 PM

All-Time Series: New Haven leads the series, 7-2-0

My Thoughts: Looked like a better matchup weeks ago.

Bentley lost their second straight game as they were crushed by LIU Post 38-3. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead but that was the high point of the afternoon in New York. The offense struggled on third down and was not able to extend drives to build confidence. The Falcons will need to repeat their second half performance weeks ago when they played across town. The offense needs to convert and help to control the clock. The defense will need to find a way to limit Patterson and all of his weapons.

New Haven is cruising right now, and the latest victim was Merrimack by the score of 44-18. They have won three straight and Ajee Patterson is a big reason for the success. He is completing the majority of his throws as he has plenty of targets to spread the ball around to. The Chargers need to stretch the field with the arm of Patterson to help the running backs find holes. The defense will need to pressure the quarterback and take advantage of mistakes.

New Haven will take care of business at home.

Prediction: New Haven 38 Bentley 16

American International (0-3, 0-3 NE-10) @ Assumption (3-1, 3-0 NE-10)

When: September 29th, 1:00 PM

All-Time Series: American International leads the series, 15-6-0

My Thoughts: Two teams going opposite ways.

American International lost their third straight to open the season to St. Anselm 29-21. They played well early and late but lost the game in the middle part of the game. They might have found their next passing duo as Prince Olubakinda and Lennox Green Jr. They had two scores and nine total hookups in the game. The Yellow Jackets need to find a way to slow down the Greyhound offense. The offense needs to make consistent throws and catches and move the ball to keep the Assumption offense off the field.

Assumption took advantage of all of Pace's mistakes and won their third straight game 49-21. Cody Williams and Doug Santos accounted for all of the scores in the victory and the offense scored when they were given the opportunity. The Greyhounds will need to make plays on the defensive side and then let the offense continue their solid play. They need to score early and often and make American International play from behind.

Assumption is the better team and will win the game.

Prediction: Assumption 49 American International 7

LIU Post (3-0, 3-0 NE-10) @ Merrimack (1-3, 1-2 NE-10)

When: September 29th, 1:00 PM

All-Time Series: Post leads the series, 12-3-0

My Thoughts: Upset alert?

LIU Post took care of business once again as they dismantled Bentley 38-3. The defense has been the strength this year and allowed a grand total of 18 points this season. They fell behind 3-0 and then the offense kicked into a different gear as Malik Pierre was the star of the game. The Pioneers need to continue their balanced offensive attack and superior defense. They just need to play mistake free on the road and take care of business.

Merrimack lost on their home turf again, this time to New Haven 44-18. They fell behind early and that is very tough for a young team to rally when things are going against them. The defense had no answer for the aerial attack of New Haven. The Warriors will need to play a game that is beyond their years. The offense needs to move the ball and control the clock. The defense will need to find a way to slow down the Pioneers for the first time this year.

Post is the better team and will continue their torrid pace.

Prediction: Post 42 Merrimack 13

St. Anselm (1-2, 1-2 NE-10) @ Southern Connecticut (2-2, 1-2 NE-10)

When: September 29th, 1:00 PM

All-Time Series: Southern Connecticut leads the series, 15-3-0

My Thoughts: Battle of quick moving offenses.

St. Anselm held on for a 29-21 victory over American International. They were unstoppable in the first half after they fell behind early. The offense moved the ball with ease and then struggled in the second half. The defense was consistent throughout the afternoon. The Hawks need to move the ball 60 minutes on the road and play mistake free while their defense needs to control the Owl running game.

Southern Connecticut grabbed their first league victory by dominating Stonehill 42-21. The running game was solid again and they inserted a backup quarterback who threw for three scores. The defense was solid after allowing an early score and then dug in. The Owls will need more of the same in playing a complete game. They will need to control the clock with their running game and slow down the Hawk offense.

Southern Connecticut will grind out yards and grab the victory.

Prediction: Southern Connecticut 34 St. Anselm 24
