After the Gorillas took a 7-0 lead on their second possession of the game, they were then able to take advantage of a couple big mistakes by the Loper offense. Facing 3rd and 7 from the UNK eight yard line, QB Alex McGinnis was strip-sacked by Cole Morris. The Lopers recovered the ball in the end zone for a safety to put the Gorillas up 9-0. After the Loper defense forced a PSU punt, McGinnis was picked off four plays later deep in his own territory by Carnell Lewis, who returned it all the way to the Loper 11. PSU QB John Roderique bowled in from a yard out three plays later to put the Gorillas up 16-0 in the first quarter, but suffered an undisclosed injury on the play and did not return. The Lopers used this to their advantage and crawled back in the game, scoring a touchdown and then a field goal on their next two possessions, but after failing to get a first down on their next possession, the Gorillas got the momentum back with a 6-play, 61-yard touchdown drive right before the half to go up 23-10 at the break. In the third quarter, the Lopers made it a little interesting when McGinnis hit Trey Lansman with a pass down to the PSU 5. Lansman fumbled on the play, and the Gorillas recovered only to fumble the ball back to the Lopers at the PSU 11. The Gorilla defense rose to the challenge and held the Lopers on downs to thwart the threat, and then back up QB BJ Bradbury led the PSU offense on an 11-play, 90 yard touchdown drive to pretty much end the game. Both defenses played well, holding their opposing offenses to under 300 total yards (PSU 295 UNK 267), but the Gorilla defense had the better night, allowing just 3.9 yards per play to the Lopers. The Gorillas are the lone unbeaten team in the league, and the Lopers fell to 2-2.

The Griffons scored on their first three possessions to go up 21-0 and that was all they needed to win in this one. The Riverhawks came into the game with the 12th ranked offense and the 11th ranked defense in the league, and things did not improve as they were outgained 612-210 in total yardage. The Griffons churned out 326 yards on the ground, bringing the total amount of rushing yards allowed by NSU to 1,142 this season. The only team to allow more than that in D2 this year is MSSU, although Chowan has only played three games and is allowing a few more yards per game on the ground than the Riverhawks. Probably most impressive in the Griffon victory is that the majority of the 612 yards of offense they generated came from backups. James Bailey, Jr. led all rushers with 152 yards and 2 touchdowns, and WR Carlos Henderson, a Texas Tech/Garden City CC( KS)/Independence CC (KS) transfer (of Last Chance U fame) led the team with 91 yards on two catches, including a 74 yard TD from backup QB Wyatt Steigerwald. NSU receiver Isaiah Upshaw led all receivers with 104 yards on 4 catches, and the Riverhawks (like MSSU) had their highest point output on offense for the season.
