The MSSU men picked up another commitment today. Cody Lechlider, a 6'4 guard from Owasso, OK just announced his commitment today. Our recruiting class now includes a 6'1 transfer guard (D2), three 6'4 HS guards, 6'8 HS forward, and 6'9 transfer JUCO forward. Filling several positions with guys graduating or entering the transfer portal. I'm thinking we still have two more spots open. Huge turnover this year!

According to Twitter, the men's basketball team has picked up a commitment from Cortaviaus Seales, a 6'1 guard from Western New Mexico, a D2 school in the LSC. He averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, while shooting 44% from 3-point range and earning LSC Honorable Mention honors. He has 1 year of eligibility remaining. Some much needed experience to lead our young group of guards.

According to Twitter, the men's team has picked up another commitment:

Hunter Fitch -6'8 forward from Mexia, TX high school

That now makes two 6'4 guards, a 6'8 forward, and a 6'9 forward. Adding some much needed size.

According to Twitter, the ladies have picked up a couple of commitments in the last week or so:

Jacqueline Hall - 5'10 guard from Pittsburg, KS high school

Nariah Clay - 5'10 freshman guard from Morton College in Illinois

Looks like hosting the NJCAA women's national tournament is paying dividends for us.. Nariah played several games on our floor as she led her team to a 5th place finish in the national tournament.. She scored 18 points a game and shot over 50% from 3 point land during the tournament and made 115 3s on the season.

According to Twitter, the men's basketball team picked up a commitment from Cooper Francis, a 6'4 guard from Salisbury, MO. He is a 2-time All-State selection and shot over 40% on 3-pointers this season. Averaged 34 points per game in the state Final 4 this year. Looks like another good addition for our men's team.

A few weeks ago, the Lions men announced that they signed Tyrique Brooks, a 6'4 guard out of Springfield Central. He is one of the most athletic guards in the state and was 1st team all-state in class 6.

In the post-game news conference after MOSO's men's loss to MoWest Wednesday night, Martin Macenis mentioned that he is currently planning to return to the team next year. Martin was an Honorable Mention selection this year, and will be at MOSO for a 6th year (one redshirt year, one Covid year, and 4 regular years). He had participated in senior day, so I didn't think he would return. Good news to have this very crafty player back for one final season!

The turnovers definitely killed MOSO. Some of them were due to UCO's suffocating defense, but some were just careless and not taking care of the ball. This MOSO team has a long ways to go with 6 straight losses now, with 3 to nationally ranked teams. We've had a tough schedule. But too many turnovers and some cold shooting. Waiting for this team to come together with two newcomers in the starting lineup.

I've been paying attention to Lacy Stokes at Missouri State... she had a rough game tonight against Mizzou, but I think she's proving that she can play Division 1 basketball. Averaging double figures and leading the team in minutes. She was definitely a good one... even though NW won last Thursday, I admit that I kind of missed watching her play.

Last week was a tough week for MOSO basketball with the men going 0-3 and the ladies 1-2. The men got swept by GLVC teams. You can tell that the men are trying to mix in their new pieces and are struggling doing so. Hope they can start to come together and play well as a team and start making some shots. The ladies lost to two very good teams on the road ... Southern Nazarene and Angelo State, before blowing out Midwestern State from the LSC. Hope this tough early schedule has prepared the ladies for the start of MIAA play. This first week of MIAA play will be very challenging for both teams with games at Northwest and MoWest.

Great day for Missouri Southern! The ladies started the day with a win over Henderson State to start their season 2-0. The men beat Bemidji State to earn a split for the weekend. Then the football team closed the day by upsetting MoWest to finish the year 5-6, which is our best record for several years.

Really just hard to believe. He’s starting his 7th year of collegiate basketball. Scored nearly 2,000 points in three seasons at Missouri Southern.

My youngest had some classes with Cam at Southern, and both are almost 26 and still in school. Mine is working on his doctorate now - I think Cam will wind up with a couple of degrees as well.
