Mike McClure is a first-class announcer. I think he is one of the best in the business. The NW defense was suffocating. Didn't let us do anything or have many uncontested shots (some of which we missed because we were shocked to be open). The suffocating NW D and their disciplined offense will likely take them to another natty. Would have liked Parker (our new PG) to see action last night, but the outcome of the game would not have changed. Would have been very valuable for him to get first-hand experience against the best D2 team in the country.

Men’s final Bearcat men 72 Lions 45. Career high of 25 for DB.
If the Bearcats can cut down on turnovers they could be pretty good again this year.

Northwest Missouri closes the first half on a 5-0 run to build a nice little 30-19 halftime edge. Lions playing without their starting point guard and a reserve who typically plays 10 minutes per game - both in walking boots and one on crutches. It’s been intense and the Bearcats D is wreaking havoc as usual. They deserve the credit for our even poorer shooting than normal.

MOSO women are now #5 in the country in the WBCA poll and #2 in the D2SIDA poll. Have played a tough schedule so far, but now the real grind and challenge begins. We begin MIAA play on Thursday vs. NW and Saturday vs. MoWest. MIAA play is always very grueling. This will be a new challenge for our ladies, since they are now the hunted, instead of the hunters. Every single team will be extremely motivated to beat us and to knock us down and out of the rankings. We'll see how the ladies face this new challenge! Go Lions!

The MOSO women are now #10 in the country in the WBCA poll! Great start to the season with a very tough schedule. Hope the ladies can continue their strong performance against Missouri S&T tomorrow night and Central Christian College on Saturday before they start MIAA play next week. Go Lions!

And tonight was a win over U of Illinois Springfield who came in 3-0 plus a win over D-1 Northern Illinois in an exhibition game. Pretty good W for our Lions!

Congrats to Sam McMahon on career win #1 tonight. The MOSO men did make some strides tonight, shooting over 50% and playing well. Parker Long broke out tonight, showing the skills that took him to a D1 school originally. Glad he is now a Lion. Avery Taggert played well and shot a little better tonight. Got key contributions from Vinson, Lawson, and Ndongo, all off the bench. Ndongo did an amazing job on the boards and blocking and altering many shots. I liked the tweak to the starting lineup, and think it will make us a better overall team. A great team win, and again congrats to Sam for win #1, the first of many at MOSO.

Watched part of the MoSo game with ASU today. MoSo is very good. They also appear to have good upside. MoSo is just in a higher class than ASU. ASU is improved and should be one of the top 4 teams in the LSC. The LSC is top-heavy this year, it will the top 4 then everyone else. Wt and MoSo appear to have legitimate Elite 8 potential. Wt first home game is tomorrow. S.W. Oklahoma is our opponent. New Coach and several new players, this could get ugly.

The sudden turnaround in the women’s program is surprising and so great to see. Coach Ressel has worked long and hard and it is paying off with the high quality roster he has assembled, including so many local gals such as the Stokes “sisters” (not related, but from Mt Vernon and Cassville) and Layne Skiles from Purdy.

The men need to make some strides this weekend at the Pitt State Classic. A win or two there is needed to boost the confidence of this squad with three new starters in the program.

Missouri Southern Basketball - A New Era

This 2022-2023 season kicks off a new era for MOSO basketball.

For the women, they enter this season with high expectations after finishing as MIAA regular season co-champs, advancing to the MIAA tournament championship game, and advancing to the regional last year. They normally enter the season picked around 10th in the preseason MIAA polls. They enter this season as preseason #1 in the MIAA and are nationally ranked. This is the beginning of a new era with high expectations.

For the men, Jeff Boschee left MOSO for the hated monkeys. The Sam Mcmahon era has now started for MOSO men's basketball. Sam was a former assistant coach for the Lions and understands the basketball program, the university, and the community. Sam is as nice and as good of a man as you will find anywhere. I believe that Sam will lead the men's program to new heights in the coming years
