I had heard Dr. Townsend passed away years ago, but that evidently was not true. The man was a brilliant lecturer - it's safe to say no one ever fell asleep in his class.
The WT flag flew at half-staff today in memory of Dr. Charles "Bud" Townsend, a professor emeritus of history, Grammy Award-winning Bob Wills expert, and The Canyon News Man of the Year of 2017.
Dr. Townsend, whose friendly face greeted campus visitors for years from his sidewalk perch across from Old Main, died Jan. 21; funeral services were held Jan. 26.
"To every person he met, whether he was announcing rodeos, teaching in the classroom, or taking a walk, he gave an endearing piece of himself, a piece that nothing else in this world can fill."
