The problems for Cheyney go way beyond football or the athletics department. The University is not in good health and hasn’t been for many years. Enrollment has declined and the quality of their student body has too. The admission standards are pretty low and the retention rates are awful. That also applies to the football team. One of their biggest problems is that they can’t keep kids in the program for 4 years. They are always playing young guys and they never have enough depth. Every one of their players was a very good high school player, so it’s not like they don’t have any athletes. They just don’t have enough bodies overall and they never have enough upper classmen.
