The University of Central Missouri is one of six Division II football teams that appears in one, but not both, of the major polls. The Mules are ranked No. 22 in the D2 poll, up 2 spots from last week, but still have yet to crack the AFCA poll in 2012.
Both polls have Pitt State and Missouri Western in among the Top 10, but the third conference representative of that elusive group differs between the media and coaches poll.
D2Football has Northwest Missouri at No. 10 and Washburn at No. 13 while the AFCA has the Ichabods at No. 9 and the Bearcats at No. 12.
Frankly, I'm not sure either is a Top 10 team right now, but they'll have a chance to earn it in the coming weeks.
Here's the D2Football.com poll with the AFCA ranking in parenthesis.
1. Pitt state (1)
2. Umd (2)
3. Gvsu (4)
4. 4csup (3)
5. Mowest (7)
6. Cal pa (6)
7. Minn. St (22)
8. Wssu (5)
9. New haven (8)
10. Northwest Missouri (12)
11. West Alabama (23)
12. Bloomsburg (11)
13. Washburn (9)
14. Acu (19)
15. Hillsdale (NR)
16. Midwestern state (15)
17. Wtam (25)
18. Valdosta (16)
19. Humboldt (10)
20. Saginaw valley (20)
21. Indiana pa (14)
22. Central Missouri (NR)
23. Kingsville (NR)
24. Ouachita (13)
25. Ashland (17)
Three teams ranked in the AFCA poll are not ranked in the D2Football.com media poll: No. 18 Colorado School of Mines, No. 21 Wayne State and No. 24 Henderson State.
Other big differences come out of the GLIAC, where Hillsdale is ranked 15th by the fine folks here at D2Football.com and unranked in the AFCA poll, and Ashland sneaks in at No. 25 in the D2 poll while ranked 17th by the coaches.
And in the NSIC, Minnesota State Mankato is No. 7 in the D2Football poll and 22nd in the AFCA.
West Alabama took a big hit from the coaches when they lost to an FCS team and sit 23rd in the AFCA poll and 11th in D2.
And Humboldt State is getting a lot of love from the coaches at No. 10 in the AFCA and No. 19 in D2.
Ouachita Baptist is another team the coaches are high on. They're No. 13 in the AFCA and No. 24 in D2.
Which poll has it right? Does any of it matter? Out of Kingsville, UCM, Hillsdale, Mines, Wayne State and Henderson State, which teams do you think belong and which ones don't?
And which teams do you think we'll see fall from the polls (and who will replace them) as the season moves forward?
