The last day of regular season football is finally here.
Eight different teams have some sort of postseason hopes, whether it be playoff locks (Northwest Missouri, Missouri Western) or barely-breathing bowl game hopes (Missouri Southern, Central Missouri) and everything in between (Emporia State, Washburn, Lindenwood, Pittsburg).
Each team, while needing to take care of their own business first, could also use a little help, either from other teams in the conference or in the region.
I've already gone over the playoff and bowl game scenarios this week, but I wanted to take a different approach and give fans an easy guide on who they should be pulling for to help their team.
Here's a look at what teams you should be rooting for today.
Northwest Missouri
Playoffs: Root for Ouachita Baptist over SR3-2 Henderson State and/or Upper Iowa over SR3-1 Minnesota State-Mankato. Either of those, combind with a Northwest win, would move the Bearcats into a first-round bye.
Bowl game: N/A
Missouri Western
Playoffs: Root for Ouachita Baptist over SR3-2 Henderson State and/or Upper Iowa over SR3-1 Minnesota State-Mankato. Either of those, combind with a Western win, would move the Griffons into a first-round bye.
Bowl game: N/A
Emporia State
Playoffs: At least 2 out of the 3 following -- SW Oklahoma over SR3-4 Harding; Northern State over SR3-6 Minnesota Duluth; Concordia st. Paul over SR3-7 Winona State. Whehter it's 2 of 3 or all 3 of 3, there's no gaurantees.
Bowl games: Root for Missouri Southern. If they win, they don't need any help. If they lose, they can still be assured a bowl berth if Southern beats Pitt State. If the Gorillas win, they'll be among the 'choices' for bowl games.
Washburn
Playoffs: N/A
Bowl games: Root for Missouri Southern to beat Pitt State. If that happens, and the 'Bods win, Washburn would have the first choice of bowl games. If Pitt beats the Lions (and WU wins), Washburn is among the 'choices' for bowl games. If Washburn loses, they need victories from Truman over Lindenwood AND Southern over Pittsburg. That would put WU, Lwood, Pitt, UCM & MSSU tied for the second bowl slot with 4 losses, and it would be up to the bowl game.
Pittsburg State
Playoffs: N/A
Bowl games: Root for Emporia over Washburn AND Truman over Lindenwood. A Pittsburg win conjoined with those two outcomes would be the Gorillas' only assured bowl game scenario and would give Pitt the second bowl choice. Every other potential outcome (coupled with a Pitt win) puts them in a "pick" situation with at least two other teams. If they lose, they'd need Emporia to beat Washburn AND Truman to beat Lindenwood to finish in a 5-way tie for the second bowl game, leaving the decision up to the bowl committee.
Lindenwood
Playoffs: N/A (ineligible)
Bowl games: Root for Emporia. A Hornet win over Washburn coupled with a Lindenwood win puts the Lions in the second bowl game no matter what. If Emporia loses to Washburn, Lindenwood can finish in a four-way tie for the top bowl game spot (if Pitt beats Southern) or be knocked out of the bowl picture (if Southern beats Pitt). A Lindenwood loss leaves only 1 possibility of a bowl game; If Emporia beats Washburn and Southern beats Pitt State, Lindenwood would finish in a 5-way tie for the second bowl game (up to bowl to decide who goes).
Missouri Southern
Playoffs: N/A
Bowl games. Root for Emporia over Washburn AND Truman over Lindenwood. If MSSU can pull the mild upset over Pitt State, that combo makes for the 5-way tie for the second bowl game, giving the game Emporia doesn't pick the option.
Central Missouri
Playofs: N/A
Bowl games: Root for Emporia over Washburn AND Truman over Lindenwood AND Missouri Southern over Pittsburg State. This would leave us in the same situation described several times above -- a 5-way tie for the second bowl game and the bowl committee's choice.

"11-01-2012 You nailed the elephant, really. MoWest flat out beat Emporia. I listened...screamed for Partridge to NOT put the reserves in. It was too soon, and the result was a score that wasn't as close as it looks. I make a prediction. MoWest will beat Washburn and then beat Northwest in a close game. They're the better team...."
WSU has two losses. So does Northwest.
