That's all I could think when starting to write my recap post for y'all on what turned out to be a rather warm day across the GSC.
The phrase "bless their hearts" is used by many in the south and, according to inflection, can mean several things. My Mawmaw Davis would say it when she was truly excited for someone's good fortune, for example, or when she felt a little sorry for them.
I felt both for GSC teams this week. So, here's my
GSC "Bless Their Hearts" List:
* Mississippi College! Bless their hearts. A victory. I'll refrain from comment on the Sabbath about GSC teams playing Faith. But, it's a win so enjoy Choctaws! Unfortunately, the remainder of the schedule is all GSC.
* Florida Tech. Bless their hearts! The Panthers got a good win over the two-time defending champions in their first GSC road victory. FIT did what it had to do in the last few minutes to sneak out the W. Nice job Panthers!
* West Alabama. Bless their hearts. To lead most of the game with Caldwell and Toocheck having a good day and then it slipping away at the last second is tough. It's certainly possible last week's game affected some things today but, at 3-3, it leaves us wondering what the story will be with the Tigers this year.
* North Alabama. Bless their hearts. I was hearing the names of 4th and 5th string QB's today. What in at the world? Those smaller running QB's sure take a beating when they take off down field. They finally got things going in the second half to get the win, but UNA's offense has not looked good without Wingo starting the past two weeks.
* West Georgia. Bless their hearts for going from a pretty big high to a reality check. If Coach Dean has more than a week to plan for you, it's gonna be a tough game. Coming off the high of a big win in last week's storyline game at home over West Alabama may have been a bit too much for the Wolves to reset from before having travel to Valdosta to play for the Peach Basket.
* Last but certainly not least, Valdosta State. Bless their hearts! Playing four Top 25 teams in a row and and finishing it with a romp over West Georgia makes them 2-2 in those match-ups. They certainly looked strong in all aspects of the game after a week off. Kudos to the Blazers on the win.
GSC BY THE NUMBERS THIS WEEK:
100 - Yards gained by MC's Chris Ingram as he averaged 6.7 yards a carry with 2 TD's.
80 - Points DSU has scored in the third quarter this season, while shutting out their opponents.
51 - Longest field goal in Mark Grant's career at UWA. He made four Saturday.
16 - Number of points scored by VSU kicker Anthony Pistelli with four field goals (two from 48) and four PAT's.
10 - Number of tackles UWG's Bobby Liggins had today with one for a loss of yards.
6 - Number of first downs UNA's defense held UNC-P to in their win over the Braves.
2 - Seconds left when FIT scored the go-ahead TD to get the 1-point victory in their first GSC road win.

In my opinion VSU isn't as good this year, however, I am comparing them to 3 National Championship teams that I have seen roll through while I was in college there. I knew the hype around UWG would be tested once they started playing GSC teams. Unfortunately for UWG they have tough UNA and DSU teams yet to play. We will see how they bounce back.
