Yet another hard-fought week of Gulf South Conference football! I was 3-1 on my predictions last week, which gives me a record of 39-7 (.848) on the year and puts me three wins off the lead (15th place) in the race for the cookies with only two weeks left.

GSC Week-in-Review

VSU 24, UWA 17 - Just as I thought, this was a close game until later in the game when VSU held off the UWA comeback. Medlock had 280 total yards for the Blazers and came back in the game after an injury to help hold off the Tigers.

UWG 55, MC 14 - This game was no surprise. The Wolves took out their frustration of the previous week's loss on the poor Choctaws. UWG had a school-record 646 yards of offense including 400 on the ground.

FIT 34, SC 30 - In a bit of a surprise to some, it took a last minute hail mary for the Panthers to take down the Hawks. Cato + Milton = Touchdown. The game completely changed when Shorter's top defensive player, Jordan Shaw, was ejected.

DSU 33, UNA 28 - A sloppy battle for better standing in the conference and playoff picture as the Statesmen outlasted the Lions. Neither team looked like a national Top 10 squad and, appropriately, aren't ranked there in the latest polls.

GSC Standings

The Gulf South Conference race is still wide open with a couple of weeks to play, as two teams currently have only one loss. Delta State took the lead in the conference with the victory over UNA this weekend. Yet, three other teams remain in the hunt for the 2014 GSC title.

1. Delta State (5-1)
2. North Alabama (4-1)
3. Valdosta State (4-2)
4. West Georgia (3-2)
4. Florida Tech (3-2)
6. West Alabama (1-4)
6. Shorter (1-4)
8. Mississippi College (0-5)

Regional Rankings

With Delta State's victory over North Alabama, there was a repositioning at the top of the rankings in Super Region Two. The Gulf South Conference leads the conference break-down with five teams in the rankings. The SIAC has three and the SAC is represented by two, including undefeated, top-ranked and defending regional champs Lenior-Rhyne.

Florida Tech's entry into the rankings for the first time ever at #10 makes their next two games interesting. They play both of the Georgia schools sitting at #5 and #6 to finish their regular season.

If the top six teams all win out, I could see the rankings remaining the same as they are this week. That would put UNA hosting West Georgia and Tuskegee hosting VSU in the first round. The winner of the UNA/UWG matchup would be hosted by DSU the following week with the TU/VSU winner traveling to Lenior-Rhyne.

SUPER REGIONAL TWO (D2 Records)

1. Lenior-Rhyne (8-0)
2. Delta State (7-1)
3. North Alabama (6-1)

4. Tuskegee (7-1)
5. Valdosta State (6-2)
6. West Georgia (7-2)

7. Albany State (6-2)
8. Carson-Newman (6-2)
9. Miles (6-2)
10. Florida Tech (4-2)
