The Gulf South South Conference announced their All-Conference football honors today for the 44th time.

Leading the way is West Georgia with 16 players on the first and second team listings, while North Alabama and Valdosta have 13 each. Delta State is close behind them with 12 players among the honorees as Florida Tech (9), Shorter (6) and West Alabama (5) also have players selected.

Repeating as Offensive Player of the Year is West Alabama's quarterback Kyle Caldwell, but shares the award this season with receiver Xavier Milton of Florida Tech. The only defensive unanimous selection is Jordan Shaw and he, rightfully, was named as the Defensive Player of the Year. Freshman honors go to quarterback Mark Cato from Florida Tech and safety Trey Shaw from Delta State.

There was also a tie for Coach of the Year between DSU's Todd Cooley and FIT's Steve Englehart.

Victory Bowl

North Greenville Crusaders (6-5) vs. Shorter Hawks (3-7) @ 12 PM EST

Shorter hosts an National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) event this season, the Victory Bowl, and the Hawks will participate in the game against North Greenville. This is the 18th Victory Bowl game and NGU has won the game in their two other appearances (2006 and 2010). NGU also won the only other meeting with Shorter, during the 2008 season and also in Rome.

I've always thought the Hawks had some talented players, but it's obvious that they don't always match up well on the offensive line due to size differential with the GSC defenses. It also appears that the Crusader DL will have the size advantage. However, NGU has given up a few turnovers this season and that could play to the advantage of the Hawks with GSC Defensive Player of the Year Jordan Shaw on the field.

SU has definitely been in some competitive GSC games and plays well at home. The only common opponent between the two was Mars Hill, a game the Hawks won and the Crusaders lost. Yet, NGU played a decently close game with Lenior-Rhyne and was only beaten by 1-point by Carson-Newman.

This is a toss-up, but I'll be pulling for the GSC team and think they'll have a decent home-field advantage in this one.

Hawks 28-24
