Yet another great weekend of playoff football!
However, I'll reiterate it again, as I have on the board in recent years, I'm just not sure being a top seed and getting that BYE week is a good thing. Year after year, these top seeds go down and it's definitely interesting to see. But, let's face it, there's not much difference in the top six (or more) teams in the region in most years.
I was 2-0 on my SR2 predictions in the second round, which weren't popular with Statesman and Bear fans or even with several others in the pick contests around the message board.
The fifth and sixth seeds in SR2, tied for third place in the Gulf South Conference, will play for the regional title this upcoming weekend! Yet, that's not unheard of or even surprising. More on that re-match in posts this week.
West Georgia 37
Delta State 27
Getting their second playoff win in as many weeks, the Wolves forced four DSU turnovers and held off the Statesmen for the second time this season. Just as I predicted, UWG jumped out to an early lead and DSU had to play from behind until they tied it to go into the half. Yet, the scoring in the second half was all the Wolves as they pulled out to a ten-point lead and held the Statesmen scoreless.

The Blazers defense couldn't stop the Bears from gaining big yardage, but took advantage of five turnovers by previously undefeated L-R to edge out a win in North Carolina. VSU QB Kaleb Nobles came in to relieve an injured Jake Medlock as the Blazers did enough to overcome the top-seeded SAC champions at home. Again this week, Blazer kicker Anthony Pistelli was a key factor hitting three field goals and two extra points.
