I know. That revelation excited me, too!
Yes, it's Easter Eve and I'm possibly wishing my summer away (and I live in a beach town). But, on a weekend filled with sunrise services, egg hunts and chocolate, I'm pondering the fact that Labor Day and the start of Gulf South Conference football is in just five months!
Here's a little fix for those of you already looking forward to the fall football season like I am.
What an important weekend it will be as six GSC teams play out-of-conference/in-region foes on the opening weekend of 2015 D2 Football.
With MC and Shorter hosting schools from other associations, the focus will be the four games with Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams and the two with Southern Athletic Conference teams with three of those being on the road. These two conferences, along with the GSC, comprise Super Region Two and wins (or losses) against these teams will potentially have some (if not great) affect on how the Regional Rankings and playoff process will shake out later in the fall.
So, Week 1 will be filled with anxious anticipation in what we all hope ends up to be a nice lot of victories for the GSC. Being 4-0 against the SIAC and 2-0 over SAC teams would be a great way to set the tone for the year and is very well possible, if not probable. Of course, these teams would like nothing more than to start off their season with an upset win over a GSC team.
QUICK FACT: The GSC will play 50% of their games against these two conferences on this kick-off holiday weekend.
