Today, Southwestern Oklahoma (SWOSU) announced Eric Gibson as their new Defensive Coordinator. He will be running a 4-2-5 defense, the same defense SWOSU ran last year. His stint as Defensive Coordinator last year at Fort Scott Community College showed the following stats. His defense allowed 346.0 total yards per game and 30.9 points per game. Breaking down the total yards, his defense yielded 167.9 rushing yards per game and yielded 178.1 passing yards per game. Here is how Coach Gibson's numbers compare to the rest of the GAC in 2013: Total Defense third, Rush Defense seventh, Pass Defense second, and Scoring Defense eighth.

The stats show a balanced defense that would compare favorably well within the GAC and keep in mind Coach Gibson will have an experienced defensive core from which to build upon for the upcoming season.
