GAC Week 8 Review and Post-season picture

This week had some interesting games and two of those games impact the post-season picture for the GAC. So for the second week in a row I offer a review of the games and added in a bit about the post-season picture as it stands currently.

ECU jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. The Tigers dominated the Bulldogs. ECU was able to run the ball to the tune of 237 yards, while SWOSU was held to just 54 yards rushing. SWOSU was able to pass the ball, gaining 215 yards through the air, but that was negated by four interceptions.

This game was a shootout. Credit SNU for playing with a can do mentality, credit UAM for refusing to be discouraged when the Crimson Storm responded. There were several times UAM would get a two score lead and make us all believe they were going to pull away. Every time SNU rallied and would get the score back to within striking distance. UAM got it done through the air to the tune of 357 yards passing, while SNU got it done on the ground with 221 yards rushing.

Plausible, yes. But the only thing we know for certain is the GAC will get one team in the playoffs. Getting a second team in, will depend upon what happens with NWMSU and Pitt in the MIAA; UMD, MSU-Mankato and USF in the NSIC; and APU and Humboldt in the GNAC. The two MIAA and GNAC teams all have 1-loss, a second loss for any of them would practically guarantee they are out with the way the region appears to be shaping up.

As good as Humboldt State and Azusa Pacific are, the GNAC will only get one team into the playoffs unless all heck breaks loose in the MIAA and NSIC. Azusa has a win over Grand Valley, who isn't as solid as year's past, but are certainly better than the Texas A&M-Kingsville squad that Humboldt beat. I would say that Azusa Pacific is more likely to get a playoff nod than Humboldt State, which would make it the second time in five years that a great Humboldt squad is on the outside looking in.

Armo, I suspect the Heart of Texas Bowl is still on. I haven't heard much lately about it. I can honestly can not tell who will be in line to get the LSC invite. The season is in craziness right now and most LSC fans can tell you that. I hated that it got cancelled last year. You are right, they decide who gets an invite vesus an LSC opponent.
