Gainwell helped lead a defensive unit that held Northwestern Oklahoma State to -22 yards rushing. Aiding the Muleriders in that effort, Gainwell had 2.5 tackles for lost yardage that accounted for 20 yards lost, including a sack for 11 yards. For the game, Gainwell and the Muleriders only allowed 210 yards of total offense.
