Here are some quick insights into the remainder of the week 2 results:
Shippensburg 55 Slippery Rock 35
This game was nip and tuck until midway through the second quarter. The Raider defense forced three straight three-and-out possessions, and the offense responded with three touchdowns within a span of four minutes. A close game instantly became a blowout and the Rock never recovered. Slippery Rock moved the ball well with a balanced attack (213 rushing, 223 passing) and scored in all four quarters, but the Ship scoring blitz late in second quarter was too much to overcome. The Raiders have already gone over a 1,000 yards of total offense this season.
West Chester 21 Gannon 17IUP 56 Cheyney 0LIU Post 46 Clarion 26
Clarion rolled up 538 yards of offense, including an unusual 280 through the air, but turnovers destroyed their chances of leaving Long Island with a victory. The Golden Eagles tossed three picks and lost three fumbles. Post was opportunistic, especially in the first half when three straight Clarion turnovers resulted in three Post touchdowns. Post had a run of six consecutive scoring drives in the game.
Bloomsburg 30 Edinboro 14Mercyhurst 45 Millersville 7
Hopes of a major turnaround in Millersville are on hold once again. The Marauders were torched for 379 yards on the ground, including 213 from Laker freshman Brandon Brown-Dukes. Brown-Dukes became just the fifth player in Mercyhurst history to rush for more than 200 yards in a game. Millersville had over 400 yards of offense in week one, but just 255 against the Lakers.
East Stroudsburg 31 Lake Haven 0
On a rainy evening in the Poconos, Junior quarterback Nate Daniels passed for 355 yards and four touchdowns in his second career start for ESU. Three of his TD passes were hauled in by senior Jordan Hallman. Lock Haven has yet to score a point this season.
