#21 Shippensburg (4-0) at Lock Haven (0-46)Mercyhurst (3-1) at Cheyney (1-3)
Mercyhurst is by the far the better team in this matchup, but don't be too surprised if the Wolves hang around for a while. There may not be a lot of passing in this one, since neither team is better than 50% in completion percentage. The Lakers do have a good running game and their strength with prevail, but Cheyney has some good backs as well and Mercyhurst has been giving up about 220 yards per game on the ground. Players and coaches may not admit to this, but it's hard to spend seven hours on a bus and then get fired up to play at Cheyney in front of 400 people. Mercyhurst won't be seriously threatened but Cheyney might hang around for 30-40 minutes.

#23 Indiana (3-1) at Millersville (1-3)Edinboro (1-2) at LIU Post (2-1)
Edinboro got their first win of the season last week in a triumph over Lock Haven, while Post suffered its first defeat in a home loss to Bloomsburg. Offensively, I think the two teams are pretty similar, but Post's attack is more balanced and efficient. I don't think Post will have a hard time taking away what little rushing attack Edinboro has, so the Scots will be forced to rely on their short passing game. Cody Harris is close 70% on completions, which is impressive, but I still don't have a lot of confidence in the Edinboro offense. Their short passing game is good for statistics and it picks up some first downs, but it struggles to finish drives against good defenses. Post got burned deep by Bloomsburg a few times, but they do a better job defending the short and intermediate routes, which is Edinboro's bread and butter.
LIU Post 28 Edinboro 21
Gannon (1-3) at #12 Bloomsburg (4-0)
Gannon averages about 275 passing yards per game, which is the same amount that Bloomsburg gives up. But the Huskies will easily take away Gannon's dismal rushing attack, so once again, success for the Golden Knights will fall squarely on the tall shoulders of quarterback Liam Nadler. Bloom has been pretty good at getting sacks and interceptions, and that trend should continue. Bloomsburg is still averaging well over 300 yards per game on the ground, but the passing game has been chipping in a fair share as well. Gannon could hang around for a while if they move the ball in the air, but Bloomsburg has too many strengths. Weather could also be a factor and the Golden Knights struggled mightily in the rain last Saturday night.
Bloomsburg 41 Gannon 21
Kutztown (1-3) at Slippery Rock (2-2)
Kevin Morton has returned to practice for the Golden Bears but Josh Luckenbaugh is likely to start for the second straight week. Luckenbaugh put in a fine performance against West Chester, but two interceptions were costly, and the Golden Bears gave up more than 40 points for the third straight game. If the Bears are to come out with a victory at SRU, the defense has to step up. They cannot put all the pressure on their offense to outscore the opponent, particularly when their two best offensive players are in street clothes. Slippery Rock suffered a setback at Mercyhurst last week, but this is still a very good 2-2 football team. Pass defense has been a little bit of weakness, so they will need to be ready for Kutztown's spread attack. Slippery can be a tough place to play at night, so the advantage goes to the home team.
Slippery Rock 30 Kutztown 27

#6Horror Child commented09-28-2012, 06:38 AMEditing a commentI disagree with the assessment that West Chester gives up on the run and goes exclusively with a passing attack. They have more running attempts than passing in each game this season. They may not be finding the success they did against Delaware, but it's not for continuing to try. It appears that the Rams approach to pass defense is the umbrella, i.e. nothing deep, so their opponents will have a lot of passing yards, but the hope is that they are short and drives eventually stall.
