8. Edinboro
Record: (3-2 overall, 2-1 PSAC West)
Analysis:Outlook:7. Kutztown
Record: (3-3 overall, 1-2 PSAC East)
Analysis: At 3-3 I had a hard time justifying placing Kutztown higher than seventh. Realistically, I think they are one of the top teams in the league, simply based on their offensive prowess. If they had not been devastated by injuries, their chances of defeating Bloomsburg and West Chester would have been dramatically improved. The absence of Kevin Morton and Josh Mastromatto really hurt. Back-to-back 56 point performances since their return have shown what they are capable of with a fully armed offense. The problem for Kutztown is the defense. Against teams not called Cheyney or St. Anselm, the Bears have given up 46 points per game.
Outlook: The eastern division championship and the post season are probably off the table already. They could still have a shot at playoffs if they win the rest of their games (and they are capable of that) but they will need help as well. The Bears have to treat every game like a playoff game and there is no better time to start than right now. The only blemish in their 2011 championship season was an inexplicable 49-7 loss at Shippensburg. The Raiders come to town in week seven with an undefeated record and the Bears would love to be the team to give them their first loss.
6. Mercyhurst
Record: (5-1 overall, 3-0 PSAC West)
Analysis:Outlook: The Lakers should defeat cross town rival Gannon this weekend to run their winning streak to six games. Things get tougher after that with a three week stretch of IUP, Edinboro and Cal. The passing game may have to step up when they face IUP, but the Lakers are in the position of controlling their own destiny. They are more than capable of winning the next three games (although I believe IUP will end their win streak) to face Cal with an undefeated record in divisional play.
5. West Chester
Record: (4-2 overall, 4-1 Division II, 2-1 PSAC East)
Analysis:Outlook: 4. IUP
Record: (5-1 overall, 2-1 PSAC West)
Analysis:Outlook: As dominant as this team has been at times, there is still little margin for error. They blew the Cal game and due to the weak schedule, it is conceivable that a second loss could keep them out of the post season. There are no freebies in the next three games, but IUP should be favored in all of them. Who they will face in week 11 is in question.
3. California
Record: (5-1 overall, 3-0 PSAC West)
Analysis:
Outlook:2. Bloomsburg
Record: (6-0 overall, 3-0 PSAC East)
Analysis:Outlook: 1. Shippensburg
Record: (6-0 overall, 3-0 PSAC East)
