The PSAC season ended a week earlier than we all hoped. West Chester won the Super Region 1 bracket but looked like they were a little out of gas after 14 straight weeks of football, and three straight road trips. The Golden Rams lost at Lenoir-Rhyne as the Bears ran over, through and around them (and the deplorable weather conditions) for an impressive 42-14 win. Now that all the games have been played, here are my final rankings and final notes for all 16 teams.

16. Cheyney

Overall Record: 0-11
PSAC East Record: 0-7
Offensive MVP: WR Nahum Purdie
Defensive MVP: LB Isaiah Fleming

Final Analysis: Early look at 2014:15. Seton Hill

Overall Record: 1-10
PSAC West Record: 0-7
Offensive MVP: WR / QB / RB Jarvis McClam
Defensive MVP: LB Tyler Zimmer

Final Analysis: It was a tough first season in the PSAC for Seton Hill, but it would be have tough no matter what schedule they were playing. Injuries, on top of already small numbers forced them to get creative at some positions, including quarterback. I think Isaac Collins did a great job of inspiring his kids to play as hard as they can, but they were simply way outmanned in just about every game. It would be nice to see the athletics department get behind the program a little more. Their website never posted pre-game notes or stories and their post game articles were usually about three paragraphs. Seton Hill has to be able to do more to support their football team.

Early Look at 2014: February will be the most important time of the year for Seton Hill. They need more bodies and they need more athletes that can help them compete in the PSAC West. That comes down to recruiting. If they stay healthy, two wins could be possible, but its still way too early in the building process to expect more than that.

14. Millersville

Overall Record: 1-10
PSAC East Record: 1-6
Offensive MVP: RB Ian Sadon
Defensive MVP: LB Reggie Slaton

Final Analysis: It may not have been obvious, but they did make some improvements throughout the year, especially in the line and that helped produce a 1,000 yard rusher in Ian Sadon. Sadon was named first-team All PSAC East, which is no small feat considering the number of talented backs he competed against. 2013 was a struggle but it would have been unreasonable to expect anything more than they delivered. Recruiting was not well organized or executed under previous regimes, but I think that will be corrected under the new coaching staff.

Early Look at 2014:

13. Lock Haven

Overall Record: 3-8
PSAC East Record: 2-5
Offensive MVP: WR Jesse Hoover
Defensive MVP: DB George Christas


Final Analysis:Early Look at 2014: There is still a long way to go for the Bald Eagles but there should be a handful of winnable games on the schedule next year. They may max out at three wins again, but the improvement should continue.

12. Clarion

Overall Record: 4-7
PSAC West Record: 2-5
Offensive MVP: RB Bobby Thomas
Defensive MVP: DE Julian Howsare

Final Analysis:Early Look at 2014:
11. Edinboro

Overall Record: 5-6
PSAC West Record: 3-4
Offensive MVP: WR Marcus Johnson
Defensive MVP: DB Devin Ghafoor

Final Analysis: The Fighting Scots finished below .500 overall and in the division for the second straight year. One more win would have put them over the .500 mark and I have to think Cody Harris would have been good for that, if not more. Unfortunately, the Scots had to play nine games with rookie quarterbacks and the struggle was obvious. Losing three of the last four, while trying to fight for a winning season was tough, but the upset of ranked IUP certainly provided the program with a major highlight.

Early Look at 2014: Harris qualifies for a medical redshirt and plans to return. I think he will lead Edinboro back over .500 before (finally) exiting the program. They lose only 8 seniors, which is great, but most of them were key starters.

10. Kutztown

Overall Record: 4-7
PSAC East Record: 3-4

Defensive MVP: DE Zach Greenwald

Final Analysis: Early Look at 2014: 9. Gannon

Overall Record: 6-5
PSAC West Record: 4-3
Offensive MVP: RB Jansen Jones
Defensive MVP: LB Luke Rankie

Final Analysis: Early Look at 2014: They have to find a replacement for Jansen Jones, but the offense should be very good again. They have to get a lot better on defense though. They finished last in the conference in total defense and 13th in scoring. The cross-over schedule is favorable so a second straight winning season looks promising.

8. East Stroudsburg

Overall Record: 7-4
PSAC East Record: 4-3
Offensive MVP: QB Matt Soltes
Defensive MVP: DL Bryan Thomson

Final Analysis: ESU is right in the middle of the 16 team ranking, but they were a very good team and with a play here or there, could have been as high as fifth. Nonetheless, 7-4 is a solid record and their most wins since 2009. The offense was impressive with Matt Soltes showing All America talent again, and Robert Healy was a huge addition. As a team, the Warriors ran the ball for over 2,000 yards and that was an outstanding compliment to their passing game. The defense was very good at the start of the season but not quite as good towards the end. A little more depth would help, and that will come down to recruiting.

Final Analysis:Early Look at 2014: They have holes to fill, especially on defense. The entire O-line will be back as well as a few proven skill players. A lot will depend on who steps up at quarterback and how successful he becomes.

6. Mercyhurst

2. Bloomsburg

Accomplishments:Final Analysis: Despite not winning the conference or the division, it was still one of (if not the) best seasons in program history. The only regular season loss was to Bloomsburg, which cost them the East division and a trip to the championship game. But as things turned out, West Chester took the bigger prize by advancing through the playoff bracket and winning Super Region 1. The Golden Rams set a school record with 13 wins, including three in the post season. West Chester was a very well balanced team from offense to defense, and they had two of the best kicking specialists in the conference. The offense was equally effective rushing and passing and the offensive line play was exceptional as well.
