Slippery Rock takes sole possession of first place in the PSAC West
Gannon had the advantage first down, passing yards and total yards, but Slippery Rock used big plays from all three facets of the game to come out with a 3 point win in an exciting battle Saturday night. The Rock was mostly true to form in taking some time to settle in and figure out the opposing offense. Gannon had an impressive 85 yard drive to open the game and then took advantage of field position to add two more first half TDs. The Rock clamped down as the game went on though and Gannon was held scoreless from 3:45 left in the second quarter until 5:23 left in the fourth. The Rock score twice during that time to take the lead. One of the scores was a blocked punt returned for a touchdown early in the third quarter. A big difference in the game was Slippery Rock finding more ways to pressure Gannon's Liam Nadler in the second half. Nadler had very good protection early in the game but once the Rock figured out how to bring pressure, fortunes really changed for both teams.

The win gives Slippery Rock sole possession of first place in the PSAC West. The Rock is the only team left in the division that is undefeated overall and in conference play. Holding the lead will be a tough task though. The Rock travels to California this Saturday, then out to Michigan for the battle in the big house with Mercyhurst, then to Indiana to face rival IUP. They will not be back at Mihalik-Thompson stadium until November 1. Gannon must rebound quickly and prepare for their rivalry game with Mercyhurst on Saturday.
