It's hard to believe we're at mid-season already, but here we are steam rolling into week five of the season and week two of divisional play. The schedule is highlighted by a critical PSAC West meeting with Slippery Rock traveling to California. Here is the complete schedule for week five.

Shippensburg (3-1, 1-1) at Lock Haven (0-4, 0-1) 12:00Mercyhurst (1-3, 0-1) at Gannon (3-1, 0-1) 12:00Edinboro (3-1, 0-1) at Clarion (2-2, 1-0) 2:00Millersville (1-3, 0-1) at Bloomsburg (3-1, 1-0) 2:00Seton Hill (3-1, 0-1) at #10 IUP (3-0, 1-0) 4:00West Chester (2-2, 1-0) at Kutztown (1-3, 1-0) 6:05

Neither team earned a terribly impressive win last week, but both the Ws were still critical. West Chester has the talent to be a 4-0 football team right now, but another sloppy performance last week could have dropped them to a lowly 1-3. Thankfully for the WCU faithful, the Rams pulled together their best performance of the year and brought home a dominant 37-7 victory of still winless Lock Haven. Kutztown entered last week 0-3 and in desperate need of a win. They were in a brawl with Millersville but a touchdown on the last play of the first half gave them some breathing room and they extended the lead and shut out the Ville in the 3rd and 4th.

The Bears did a lot of the heavy lifting with the running game, piling up 309 yards against the Marauders. Craig Reynolds led the way with 157 yards and four touchdowns. They also got a very solid performance from QB Collin DiGalbo, who was in his first start for the Bears. Kutztown really needs a QB to step forward and take command of the offense, which has started three players in four games. Hopefully DiGalbo is the man, but he will be tested against one of the better defenses in the East.

West Chester had been killing themselves with mistakes in the first three weeks. Last week was better, although 10 penalties is still way too much. If they continue to improve in that department, I think their productive passing game (366 yards per game) will be a little too much for a Kutztown defense that is struggling against passing teams.

Winston-Salem State was humbled at home by Virginia Union in week three, but bounced back by thumping Virginia State 35-14 last Saturday night. From a playoff perspective, the Rams have little room for error at 2-2, but they have reasserted themselves as a favorite to win the CIAA south division. The Rams play in Pennsylvania this coming Saturday at Lincoln.
