Thinking for me is a scary thing. It usually ends with a headache, tears or blacking out. But what has occurred in the Gulf South Conference in the last week is as remarkable as a full set of teeth in Arkansas and deserves the same amount of attention, therefore I had to write this tonight.

When I began covering the Gulf South Conference in 2006 it wasn't in the realm of possibility for North Alabama and Valdosta State to lose to West Alabama and West Georgia respectively. Now I know VSU dropped one to UWG in 2005, but since that loss these have been very different programs talent-wise. I would put the percentage odds of the two big programs to beat the little guys at around 90 percent since 2006.

But what happened with West Alabama taming the Lions and West Georgia putting out the Blazers flame marked a new era in the GSC. While this conference looks to add to its list of programs, remember there are programs here capable of doing incredible things. They are doing it in very different ways, with different philosophies; but they are now good football teams.

They say anybody can beat anybody on any given day in football. But really that didn't hold true for this conference for a long time. It does now.

These two programs have made strides that most fans pray for over the years but never see. Most schools don't ever get the results they want and remain the red headed step child of their conferences.

West Alabama has been to the playoffs and has won a game sure. But on Thursday they beat North Alabama for the second time in three years. I never thought it could happen.

West Georgia grabbed the Peach Basket, the most illustrious trophy in sports today, with its first win over their in state rivals in six years. I thought this was a program that would live in yester-year for another decade.

Will Hall and Darryl Dickey are two very different coaches in two extremely different stages of their careers; but they're good at what they do. If things keep heading the way they look like they are heading we could finally have somebody to break up the Big Three for good; which is a good thing.

Top to bottom these five schools left in the Gulf South Conference are quality football programs. Blazer Nation, Lion Pride, lick your wounds now, but reflect in a few days on these events. What has occurred will make you proud. This conference has a unity that makes me proud to write this blog every week...because those of you who know me personally know I hate blogs and believe they are for gutless wonders with no testicles.

But today I look at the GSC Five and I no longer see a Big Three in the mix. I see quality football that I'll put up against any other conference's five best schools. While I am still in a little bit of shock, I can't help but think that this is a beautiful thing for this conference.

This could be the week it all really changed...
