I have delayed writing this until the last possible minute because we are close to the end. The regular season wraps up for the GSC Five and while we may have to say good bye to just one of them (if things shake out a certain way) this week, that also means every week there will be one less remaining.

Things almost went exactly to my plan last week as West Alabama found a way to claw back and make it a game with Delta State. But the Statesmen did something they have done for two years now; win as close of a game as possible.

I have continued to pick against DSU in big games. They have made things interesting each week. But they haven't lost. Is that a good thing or bad thing? Should DSU fans want them to just get it out of the way? Or are they just that good, that they can just find a way?

I don't know which is better. They're the GSC champs this year and every time I pick their match up I feel as confused as Tim Tebow in a yarmulke.

UWA proved how scary they are in the 36-34 loss. Matt Willis carried the ball 30 times for 101 yards and three touchdowns against a quality defense. This kid should represent the region for the Harlon Hill. He has been unreal. With the chip on the shoulder of Willis and the Tigers, I would hate to have to face them a second time this year, especially if I was Valdosta State of DSU.

North Alabama beat West Georgia by 25 points. Is it wrong I look down on them for not winning by more? This team is perfect on paper. West Georgia is far from it. I would've liked to have seen an absolute blood bath. What we got was a paper cut.

UNA better decimate VSU this week for me to believe in them again. The beauty of this game is that there could be a playoff spot on the line. It doesn't getter bigger and better than this for the final game of year. Two bitter rivals, battling to see the post season.

Saturday 2 pm Delta State at West Georgia

Does Delta State finally get burnt? I've asked the question all year so I figured I would just say it again here. But that's just not going to happen.

As West Georgia's season comes to an end I do expect them to be in the game at half time. A 10-14 point game going into the locker room wouldn't surprised me. But the Wolves can't score like DSU can and DSU can score with the best of them.

Do the Statesmen pull their starters early? Do they play them at all in the second half? I think they have to keep playing their key cogs, outside of Brandon Lucas, until the very end. They can't afford Lucas to get banged up, which he has been a few times this year.

Other than Lucas, they have to let their studs finish the game out for timing purposes. DSU is going to have a bye in the first round of the playoffs. If Ron Roberts takes Micah Davis out in the first half, he adds a half of football that Davis and his receivers aren't working together to an already extended break.

I'd expect a four touchdown day from Davis.

As always if UWG is going to hang around it's by utilizing their running backs to control the clock. By hang around I mean keep it a 14 point game.

Prediction: DSU over UWG 35-3

Saturday 2 pm North Alabama at Valdosta State

When these two teams get together we get our $8.00 worth. The Death Star of Division II has looked more like Jar Jar Binks lately. Annoying, obnoxious, forced down our throats and just not what it should be.

Unlike Episode 1, this can all be fixed with a National Championship appearance. With UNA unlike other programs, thats the barometer. Anything less is a failure with they way they win off season headlines. But in order to do that, they must beat a VSU team that is also playing for a playoff spot.

Cayden Cochrane has had a bye week to prepare with the VSU offense, after a few weeks of moderate success. Just because this team looks loaded for next year, doesn't mean they can't knock off their rival and slide into the playoff this year. If the Cochrane's development took it's next step during the bye week, VSU has a chance to hang with a high powered UNA offense.

The problem for VSU against UNA in these big games has been allowing big plays and falling for play action fakes. Lee Chapple does them as well as anybody. But on top of that Wes Holland is finally getting his opportunities in the backfield with Antwan Ivey. With both of them pounding the ball at a high success rate, I would expect a very conservative game called by Terry Bowden.

What David Dean will counter with is his own running back team. Dean will play the hot hand and whoever seems to be having the most success against UNA. Theseus Jackson gives the Blazers their best chance to break off big runs but freshman Troy Braswell is coming off a 188 yard performance two weeks ago. Braswell may be the most complete running back VSU has. But can you put this magnitude of a game on the shoulders of a true freshman?

Choosing a winner in this game is tougher than deciphering a Rick Perry response in this week's Republican debate.

Prediction: UNA over VSU 24-23

Saturday 7 pm Georgia State at West Alabama

West Alabama wraps up their season against another FCS program on the rise in Georgia State. The young Panthers may have just two wins but are loaded with young talent. Both teams have faced South Alabama this season with GSU beating USA and UWA falling to USA.

Remember that when th Tigers fell to USA it was the opening game of the season and Kyle Caldwell was not the starting quarterback. As much as Willis has become the focal point of this offense, Caldwell has created it's identity. Since taking the reins of the job, UWA has had the swag of th Astronomical Kid on The X-Factor.

The benefit UWA has is their veteran defense going up against a team that has used three quarterbacks in multiple games. This Tiger defense is fast at all levels. I envision the Panthers to struggle getting into a flow on offense. Everyone knows if you have two quarterbacks you really have zero quarterbacks. But what if you have three? Does that mean you have negative one quarterbacks?

So this Matt Willis guy should continue to get hit. Pencil him in for 20 plus touches, 100 plus yards and two scores.

Outrageous statement of the week: UWA will make the Super Region 2 Championship

Prediction: UWA over GSU 28-20
