Offense-RB Thomas Russell
Russell ran for 72 yards on 24 carries against the Griffons in the season opener, and figures to see a lot of action as long as he can stay healthy. The sophomore missed the last six games of the 2016 season.
Defense-LB Tye Botsford
With the graduation of one of the best linebackers in the country last year in Tyke Kozeal, the freshman Botsford has some big shoes to fill, albeit under a different regime. Kozeal averaged a Division II best 15.8 tackles per game a year ago, and Botsford had just three against MWSU. Whether it was due to the defensive philosophy or not remains to be seen.

Great foresight by you and awesome win for UNK. Hate to see the Griffs lose but can't help but be happy for UNK's team, new coach, and fanbase. I don't want to see UNK leave the MIAA so I'm glad they have some fresh optimism for their football program.
