The Hornets have already played in a couple games that had a wild finish (vs. UCM and UCO--both losses where their opponent scored on the last play of the game), and Mother Nature did what she could to see if she could help the Hornets in the fourth quarter. For the second time in three seasons (2015 vs. UCM), the Hornets were forced to suspend their game due to inclement weather. The Hornets won the first time 45-34 after the game was suspended at halftime with the teams knotted up at 24. This time, though, the Hornets were trailing 24-10 with just a little over 10 minutes to go in the game, and PSU had the ball first and 10 inside the ESU 25 yard line when play resumed the next day. Emporia State was able to force the Gorillas to settle for a Jared Vincent field goal on the drive, but that was the only bright spot in an anticlimactic finish to the game. ESU QB Braxton Marstall and RB Landon Nault were unable to go on the second day, and the offense could only muster one first down before surrendering the ball on downs. The Gorillas ran out the rest of the clock to make both teams 4-4 on the year. Vincent was named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week and teammate safety Morgan Seleamea earned MIAA Defensive Player of the week after registering eight solo tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Perhaps this will all sort itself out before then, as there is a lot of football to be played and there are several games between playoff contenders in the region these last three weeks. Two weeks ago, there were sixteen teams that had two or less losses in the region. That number has shrunk to eleven.
