The Riverhawks, after losing every one of their previous by at least 15 points, were able to get their first win of the year in a game that was tied at the end of each of the final three quarters. It seemed like the Lions were the ones headed to victory late in the 4th quarter, but NSU WR Gary McKnight did what he does yet again, and that is score on long touchdown receptions, tying the game at 23 from 51 yards out with less than two minutes to go. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime, and the Lions scored first in the second overtime with another field goal to take a 29-26 lead. After a 2 yard run on first down, McKnight struck again and hauled in the game winner from 23 yards out to give his team the win. In the loss, MSSU LB Roc Robbins was named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week for blocking a field goal, a PAT, and returning that blocked PAT for two points to tie the game up right before halftime.

The Mules scored first in the Battle of the Centrals on a Koby Wilkerson 8 yard touchdown run, but UCO rattled off the next 24 points and held a 48-17 lead in the fourth quarter before the Mules could add a couple late touchdowns to make the score look closer than what it truly was. After running for over 500 yards in their previous two games combined, the Mules were held to just 58 yards on 26 carries against a UCO defense that had been allowing 171 yards rushing per contest coming into the game. UCM QB Brook Bolles threw for 372 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw four interceptions. He was outgunned by UCO QB Chas Stallard, who finished with 381 yards passing with four touchdowns and two interceptions, and true-freshman RB Bruce White led all rushers with 134 yards.
