Lone Star Conference Players: Pro Hopefuls

Angelo State

Jermie Calhoun, RB
Season Stats: 1,024 rushing yards 5 TDs
Career Stats: 1,457 rushing yards 7 TDs
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: Multiple LSC accolades, played at OU in 16 games before transferring to Angelo State. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOJMJxuZ7hM

Thoughts: Calhoun was a great running back for the Angelo Rams and I will miss seeing him play in a Ram uniform. He had a great season after coming back from his injury as a sophomore and transferring to Angelo State from OU. Talked to a few different NFL scouts, so I know for a fact that he is on their radar. I think that if Calhoun continues to pursue his football career he might get a few tryouts for some NFL teams or some looks from the CFL.

ENMU
None

Midwestern State

Neiko Conway, DB
Season Stats: 5 INTs 9 BUs 5 TFLs 0.5 Sacks
Career Stats: 15 INTs 106 Tackles
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: Multiple LSC accolades.

Thoughts: Neiko is a great DB. He had a great tenure at MSU and a good senior season. I suspect he will get some tryouts or possible interest in the CFL.

Keidrick Jackson, RB
Season Stas: 1,229 rushing yards 15 TDs
Career Stats: 4,004 rushing yards 61 TDs
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout or FA
Notes: 2013 AFCA All-America Team, multiple LSC and D2football.com accolades. Profile and Footage: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2739752/keidrick-jackson

Thoughts: Jackson is one of the best RBs to come through the LSC in the last few years. He made play after play for the mustangs. I believe he is good enough for an NFL practice squad and possibly developing into a NFL running back but the odds are stacked against him and he may need some luck. I suspect he will get some looks from the NFL and some tryouts.

Tarleton State

Marquis Wadley, LB
Season Stats: 126 Tackles 8 TFLs 2 INTs 7 BUs 4 FFs
Career Stats: 339 Tackles 21.5 TFLs
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: Multiple LSC accolades. Profile and Footage: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/823369/marquis-wadley

Thoughts: Wadley had a breakout senior season and I suspect he will and has got a few looks but most likely he will get some tryouts and could pursue a career in the CFL if desired.

Dashaun Phillips, DB
Season Stats: 1 INT 50 Tackles 7 BUs
Career Stats: 12 INTs 176 Tackles
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout or FA

Thoughts: Phillips had a good senior season but I had a little bit higher expectations for him. I think he is on several NFL teams radars and could land on as a Free Agent or a Practice Squad player. I feel if he gets some opportunities and has a good pro day that his chances could greatly increase.

Texas A&M-Commerce
None

Texas A&M-Kingsville

Robert Armstrong, WR/RS
Season Stats: 761 yards 8 receiving TDs 2 rushing TDs
Career Stats: 2,826 yards 33 receiving TDs
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout

Thoughts: It was a rough senior season for Armstrong with the difficulties at the QB position. Replacing this receiver at TAMK will be a tall order. Armstrong truly suffered from the lack of deep balls and overall accuracy that could be thrown to him this season. I was surprised at the amount of yards he had. They tried every way to get the ball to him. Armstrong has good speed. If he performs well at the pro day, I suspect Armstrong will get a few tryouts and possible looks from the CFL.

Zane Brown, DT
Season Stats: 67 Tackles 13 TFLs 3.5 Sacks
Career Stats (2012-13): 127 Tackles 35 TFLs 12.5 Sacks
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: MVP in USA Football Bowl.

Thoughts: Brown is a great player and had a good season and career at getting in the backfield. I suspect Brown will probably be more sought after by the CFL teams but could get a few NFL tryouts.

West Texas A&M

Dustin Vaughan, QB
Season Stats: 5,401 passing yards 53 TDs 10 INTs
Career Stats: 13,535 passing yards 123 TDs
Combine Invite: Yes
Prediction: Drafted
Notes: Broke Division 2 Season Passing Yards Record (5,401 yards), Harlon Hill Runner-Up, 6th all-time in NCAA Passing Yards, countless other accolades. Stood out in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Game and practices and was talked about constantly on ESPN. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/n...ollegiate-bowl

Thoughts: Vaughn is an outstanding young man that has a big future ahead, no matter what he chooses to do. I suspect Vaughn will be drafted and if developed some more for the NFL could have the opportunity to start one day in the NFL. Vaughn will probably be picked up in the 6-7 round. I think his stock went up significantly after the NFLPA game and all the coverage he received. Vaughn is probably the best QB to come out of West Texas A&M.

Ethan Westbrooks, DL
Season Stats: 43 Tackles 7 Sacks 19.5 TFLs 10 Qbh 1 FF
Career Stats: 103 Tackles 26.5 Sacks 47.5 TFLs 29 Qbh 4 FF
Combine Invite: Yes
Prediction: Drafted
Notes: 2012 Ron Lenz Daktronics Division II National Defensive Player of the Year and Super Region Four Defensive Player of the Year, Lone Star Conference J.V. Sykes Defensive Player of the Year, 1st team D2Football.com all-America honoree. Played in East-West Shrine Bowl Game and earned Defensive MVP http://amarillo.com/sports/wt-sports...-defensive-mvp Lots of discussion about Westbrooks: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...han-westbrooks

Thoughts: Westbrooks should get the nod come draft time. He has been widely talked about and discussed by several coaching staffs. He has some things to fix and progress towards. Give him some good time and coaching and he could progress at the DE level and become a big factor. Westbrooks will probably go from round 4-6.

Torrence Allen, WR
Season Stats: 1,668 receiving yards 12 TDs
Career Stats: 3,500 receiving yards 26 TDs
Combine Invite: Possible
Prediction: PFA
Notes: Multiple LSC Accolades, 2012 LSC receiver of the year. Great write-up: http://nfldraftdiamonds.com/draft-di...wr-west-texas/
Profile and Game footage: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/461976/torrence-allen

Thoughts: Allen reminds me a lot of Brittan Golden. Allen has amazing hands with great capability of finding the ball in traffic, plus he has good speed. I talked to multiple NFL scouts about Allen, so he is getting some attention. He had two big seasons and moved up the ladder in the WT record books. I see his path possibly being similar to Golden, as well. Could be a possible late round draft but I expect him to be a Priority Free Agent.

Sergillo Castillo, PKCraig Watts, OL
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: Multiple LSC accolades.

Thoughts: The word on the street is that Watts has outstanding character and is an all-around great person. I have had the opportunity to talk about Watts to a few NFL scouts during the season. Multiple NFL teams are definitely watching him. Watts has good size and height for the NFL. A little coaching in the NFL could help develop him into a great NFL lineman. I expect he will get some tryouts for NFL teams and some CFL phone calls.

Taylor McCuller, LB
Season Stats: 152 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 8 TFLs, 1 INT, 1 FR for TD
Career Stats: 433 Tackles, 5.5 Sacks, 25.5 TFLs 4 FFs
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: Multiple LSC Accolades. Set Division 2 record for assisted tackles with 22. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/606419/taylor-mcculler

Thoughts: McCuller is a great LB and has shown great speed going sideline to sideline. I discussed McCuller with several scouts and he is definitely getting some good looks from several NFL scouts. I suspect that he will get tryouts for some NFL teams and some contacts from the CFL.

Nathan Slaughter, WR/KR
Season Stats: 516 receiving yards 3 TDs: 23 KRs 830 KR yards, 36.1 avg. per return, 3 TDs
Long: 100
Career Stats: 2,079 receiving yards 14 TDs: 48 KRs 1,396 return yards, 29.1 avg. per return, 3 TDs
Combine Invite: Doubtful
Prediction: Tryout
Notes: Multiple LSC accolades. Participated in the premier Medal of Honor Bowl, had most receiving yards on his team and KR yards. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/452312...ghts/119983381http://www.hudl.com/athlete/625040/curtis-slater. I suspect that Aaron Harris might get a few looks as well, but might have a future in the CFL http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2151698/aaron-harrishttps://twitter.com/JoePriceLSCd2
