Week 8 Previews and Predictions:

I do good one week and go back to a 3-1 week and missed out on the WT-TAMC game this week. I move to 24-8 on the season.

Texas A&M Commerce really stepped it up last week when WT came to town. I was there in person to see the Lions truly shine in one of their best performances of the season. They gave the Buffaloes fits all night. WT lead the game for 1 play until a down field strike by the Lions. The buffs had a difficult time getting to Rollison and he picked the Buffaloes apart. The Lions coaching staff threw everything at the buffs and came up big with a 48 to 21 victory, one of the biggest statements they have made this season. There were a quite a few fans on both sides to see this game. Pretty loud crowd on both sides.

It was great seeing the Lions Athletic Department Staff, especially Kevin Young at the game and seeing the game radio calling team, Brock Callaway and Charlie Chitwood. The LSC truly has some great people and staff members surrounding these teams. I also think that these teams have some of the greatest fans in all of football. Thanks for the great WT fans that stopped to talk to me, especially those in the parking lot, you know who you are. I always enjoy seeing everyone and would like to thank all of you for reading and the wonderful comments.

Texas A&M Kingsville (1-6) v. West Texas A&M (4-3), Saturday, 3 p.m. Kickoff
Canyon, TX, Kimbrough Memorial Stadium

The Javelinas jumped out to a 10 to 0 lead on Angelo last week and then it was all Rams. Kingsville had one of their biggest productions of the year gaining 483 total yards. However, they gave up 600 yards to the Rams. Even though the Javelinas lost, the game showed that they still know how to move the ball, something they have struggled with all season.
On the other side of the spectrum this week is the WT Buffaloes. The buffs are coming off one of their worst losses of the season. They will be looking to rebound this week and try to get their season back on track. WT could only manage a measly 153 passing yards last week, which is way below their average. The best play of the game came from a Preston Rabb run down the sideline for 48 yards. The passing game struggle significantly with the low amount of yards and 3 INTs.

Even though the Javelinas played a lot better last week, they will be taking on a good WT team trying to rebound from last week. The Rams and most teams have passed easily on the Javelinas. I suspect the buffs will be looking to air it out against the Javelinas and trying to get back on the win streak.

Prediction: West Texas A&M 38 Texas A&M Kingsville 24

McMurry (2-4) v. Tarleton State (3-3), 2 p.m. Kickoff
Abilene, TX Wilford Moore Stadium

Prediction: Tarleton State 52 McMurry 24

Angelo State (4-2) v. Eastern New Mexico (4-3), 7 p.m. Kickoff
San Angelo, TX LeGrand Stadium

ENMU had a difficult time last week with falling behind early 21 to 0 against the Texans. All season long the Hounds have struggled against the pass and last week was no different by giving up 386 passing yards. The Hounds have been particularly good against the run but had a difficult time last week allowing 9.6 yards per rush. Add a couple of turnovers and the game got away from the Hounds last week. They will have a difficult time this week traveling to Angelo State against a good Rams team.

The Rams look to continue to roll with another win this week against ENMU. The Rams had their first lost fumble last week against Kingsville and only have 1 lost fumble through 6 games. Angelo really stayed balanced last week and accumulated one of their highest offensive productions on the year. They will need to stay balanced against a good run defense in the Hounds.

Prediction: Angelo State 45 ENMU 35

Midwestern State (4-2) v. Texas A&M Commerce (6-1), 7 p.m. Kickoff
Wichita Falls, TX, Memorial Stadium

The Midwestern Mustangs will be looking this week to see how they stand against the Commerce Lions. The Mustangs come off a high scoring win against the McMurry Warhawks and Commerce comes in after throttling WT at home.

The Mustangs have been stopping opponent running games in their tracks and running at will on opponents. They will have to run against a good defensive line in the Lions, who are tops in TFLs. Midwestern has also faired pretty well in the pass defense in only giving up 213.5 yards per game.

On the other side, the Lions come into this game with a lot of momentum after their big win and domination of WT last week. They really turned the corner and opened up the passing game and only allowed one turnover, late in the game. The defense really stepped up in the secondary last week. This week they will need to focus more on the run game, as the Mustangs like to run the ball.

The Lions will have to exploit the secondary of the Mustangs, which can be done. The Stangs had a good warm-up last week shutting the McMurry passing game down. The Lions will also need to get pressure on Glover and the running attack to force the Mustangs to win through the air, which has been an issue for them.

Prediction: Texas A&M Commerce 45 Midwestern State 35
