This week I was able to put a little more time into doing a game preview because I only had 1 game to preview and research.
Super Region 4
LSC: NCAA Playoffs Round 1:
Texas A&M Commerce (8-2) v. Ferris State (10-0), 11 AM CST Kickoffth quarter comeback by the Mustangs. Texas A&M Commerce gave up several critical turnovers to the Mustangs with a 3-0 turnover margin. In the end, the final INT proved to be costly for the Lions in a critical juncture game. However, the Lions were able to make the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 1995 (10 years later).
I have actually watched Ferris State play several times this season via the internet feed with I assume who is the radio commentators from 97.3 FM. I have listened to those guys for the past 2 seasons following several of the Bulldogs football games. The play-by-play commentator really gets into it and fired up. I love how excited he gets on big plays by the Bulldogs, definitely the right guy to be calling the games.
This just goes to show how much Division 2 football that I watch every year.

Scouting the Ferris State Bulldogs:
Concluding thoughts: Thinking on this game for a while and watching both teams this season; in order for the Lions to win, I believe they need to do the following: pass for 350+ yards, win the turnover battle by 2 or 3, prevent and contain QB Jason Vander Laan from running wild in the Lion red zone trying to score, put multiple bodies on taking down JVL and have long time-consuming drives in their favor. This is a pretty long list; but, not undoable though.
JVL is a special player. He will look to beat you with his legs or if need be, by throwing to Lampman. He will be hard to stop all game long. The weather is definitely going to be part of the problem in this game. Snow is predicted to start in the early morning and continuing throughout the day. Additionally, the cold temperatures will not be fun to endure when trying to bring down JVL (31 degrees, feeling like 24 degrees).
The Bulldogs do look better than last season and they will be difficult to stop. ODU had to beat them last year with a great passing game that took its toll throughout the game.
I see this being a really great game and Saturday cannot get here any sooner. Ferris State prevails in the end.
Prediction: Ferris State 41 Texas A&M Commerce 36
